Good Cheap Wings

I have been using Switch kites and wings for some years and really like them. Unfortunately Switch have closed for good. I am looking for an alternative brand for wings that offer something like the Switch experience. ie. reasonable price, very light but durable, extremely user-friendly. Any suggest...

Re: Want to put bungee inside dyneema

Not really. The traditional way used to be to take the bungie out of the line, pass it round the outside, then back in and down, then bind it with some grosgrain ribbon and sew. It looked nice but was a pain to do and it still broke. The last ones I did I simply anchored the bungie with a pin then s...

Re: Technique for stitching a long bury splice

I have a long driveway. I cut the lines to approximate length and loop and sew one end of all of them. Anchor one line, run it out, tension it, measure and mark it against a 30m tape measure (they're very cheap). Make the splice and make a very long bury. Don't sew it if you're keen on length accura...

Re: Technique for stitching a long bury splice

I am not a fan of the Brummel splice at all. For quick splices/prototyping they're ok. For anything important they're crap. Not adjustable. Complicated to do properly. The other day I had one in a thicker line where the bury pulled out.😮 To address the original question, whack it in a sewing machine...

Re: Kite pump ideas collection

... I've recently started to learn wingfoil and got surprised the amount of air a 6m wing requires. Thus, I'm now using a compact pump to pre-inflate the wing. It takes about 40 seconds to fill a 6m wing. It's a high/moderate volume (400L/min) and low pressure pump and I finish the process using a ...

Re: Kite pump ideas collection

The only problem I have with pumps is that they are the only piece of equipment I don't have a backup for and without a pump I can't do anything. Everything else I have multiples or alternatives. No pump? No session! (That doesn't include the odd foil kite, but I don't always have them with me.) Wha...

Re: Dry Fast Harness

+1 for Mystic Stealth. Almost every part of the harness is non-absorbent material. It wipes dry. The only bit that stays damp is the fabric cover over the buckles and that dries fairly quickly.

Re: Kite Helmet

I have been wondering similar. Most why it is so used with wing foil, and barely at kite foil. Wiser generation? The main reason is that the board is attached to you with a leash so it stays fairly close to you in a crash. It is not uncommon for the board to bounce off your head. It's usually a fai...

Re: Flysurfer Peak 5

I have been dabbling with my Peak 5 and I'm having some fun with it. I crashed it once and was able to swim to it and put it in relaunch position. The leading edge was sitting up and nicely filled with air. Unfortunately with no tension on the lines the leading edge sagged back into the water by the...

Re: Foilkite preinflation pump

What about an inflation bag? It could be lighter, more compact, use it to store your kite, stuff it in your pocket.

You could buy a pack raft one, or adapt a dry bag, or simply sew one up from a bit of ripstop. Even a garbage bag could work.
