Re: Looking for a bar with alot of throw..whats out there?

2010 GK Bar, great safety release (easy to reset on the water), several leash connection options. The chicken line throw is adjustable, on the fly, seriously. Park the kite in neutral, grab both chicken rope lines, push one, pull the other. It is a big loop with an integrated trim strap. Has saved m...

Re: Kiteboarding slang

Going Big - Jumping higher than normal. Usually happens when lit on a big kite and small board in nukin winds. Kook - Someone who should take up knitting instead of kitesurfing. Often rides the Poo Stance and does Dangle Tricks. Has no idea they just stepped off the short bus. Juiced - Riding fast ...

Re: Annoying question from newbie?

As others noted, lessons are good idea. The equipment has changed a lot in the last 3-4 years and understanding how to use your safety is essential. For your weight I would consider a 12-13M as your first kite. It will work well in those 15-20mph days on the water and those 10-15mph days on the snow...

Re: Best should be brand of the year

As you can see from the list below, only one kite I found costs more than the Taboo. It is the most expensive kite Best offers. 2010 Kite Only prices (MSRP): 12m Naish Helix $1599 12m Taboo $1399 13m Cabrinha Crossbow $1349 12m Epic Screamer $1330 12m North Vegas $1315 12m Nemesis NXG $1299 12m Ocea...

Re: Best should be brand of the year

While I agree withe superjoke being a troll, there is an element of truth to this (albeit a small one). What Best did was design each size to suit a certain purpose and adjust different parameters of the kite to fit that role. For example, the Biggest sizes have a different strut layout and are opti...

Re: Kite "low end" vs "high end"

I like Gigi's definition for this. It is a more holistic view. While I agree with Peter_Frank that a lot of it has to do with Pull, I would also say that turning speed, power through the turn, and ability to generate power via apparent wind are all important factors in determining a kites efficiency...

Re: 09 Nobile 666 131 for a 84kg person ?

I have been riding my Nobile 2007 666 132x41 as my all around board for 3 years now. I ride it in all but the lightest conditions. I am 89kg. Aside from the spray in the face, it excels in every way. I was riding it with my 17M GK Sonic yesterday and throwing some massive air. It was less than 15mph...

Re: Is there a standard method for "tuning" your bar/lines?

frankm1960, I use the same method you do for my Best bars and my GK bars. Full Power on strap, all four lines should be even when the bar touches the chicken loop. I have 3 bars that I use interchangeably with all of my kites (Best and GK). If I need to tune the kite to suit a bar better, I add pigt...

Re: kite line strenght?

600lb is pretty common in my experience. I like what mx5alan said about 3x body weight. In the past I did some calculations and discovered it would be theoretically possible to reach 3g of force (or more) in a kiteloop. The thing to keep in mind is that there are many different forces acting on the ...
