Re: How much of an annoyance are hourglass skis?

Da Yoda nails it. If you want to get a non-indemnified binding serviced or if you want to be set at a DIN setting outside spec's, shops have the option of having you sign a waiver. But most won't take it on. In regard to how side cut affects the ride. It depends a lot on how hard you engage the edge...

Re: SnowKiting of Northen Baikal

If I had a bucket list, kiting Baikal would be on it. That looks amazing.

Thank you for sharing.

Re: Positioning bindings on straight skis

I misread your original post slightly. Yes 15cm is the distance from the ski center. You need to be one hole diameter away from the holes you want to avoid. Approximately 5mm. Depending on what size boot the ski was originally mounted to, if there isn't too much hole interference with the toe positi...

Re: Positing bindings on straight skis

I have an answer but first I have some questions.

To be clear, 15cm is how far you're having to move to avoid hole interference? That's an awful lot. Did you mean 15mm (which is still a bit)

What binding was on there before and what binding are you installing?

Re: Help me understand the kite dealer business

Larger dealers or dealers that have more resources, have more buying power and get deeper bulk discounts. This allows them to discreetly move a lot more on the price than smaller dealers that don't qualify for the same discounts from the manufacturer. Though understandable, it limits the profit marg...

Re: Peak 4 air colapse

Aaah, okay, I think you simply have to use more time to "get the feel" of perfect sheeting. When you write your powered kiteloops are odd and somewhat losing shape, it is definitely because you dont hold the perfect sheeting all the way round the loop. It is extremely sensitive if you under and in ...

Re: Peak 4 air colapse

So many questions, sorry. Exactly what kind of collapse? Frontal/leading edge collapse? Stalled/oversheet collapse? Random drifting and hit a rotor and collapse? total collapse or single wingtip? Were you powered or drifting? I've run the Peaks with both Y, Low V. For our local riding low V is plent...

Re: New snowkite advice

Now asking for myself, how do these single skins perform in the larger sizes (11m/13m)? I assume they have poor lift capability, but it really looks like they could drift well in holes. Initially, the early ones produced very little, near-zero lift. Which was a benefit for example when approaching ...

Re: New snowkite advice

I tried a friend's Pansh years ago and had issues that required a lot of tuning. That particular kite was not great out of the box, and I recall some tuning discussions online about them at the time, but this was several years ago. Ideally, I'd like to get him something that's going to fly controll...

Re: New snowkite advice

If you are looking for a kite to do mixed duty as a trainer/riding kite for a 115lb rider, the 3m Peak 4 is what I would put him on. It will give him something to learn on that will be fun, forgiving and nearly indestructible but can still easily be used for riding in moderate winds when surface con...
