Re: Who's design is it really? Kite marketing sucks.

SWO_kite, are you kidding me? It's been 20 years of kiteboarding bars that were either faulty right off the start, or wore out so quickly that you'd be lucky to get a year of use out of them. And these BS designs were primarily a product of trying to get around patents of rival kite companies. It's ...

Re: What influences going upwind

How about an explanation for why hyrdofoils can point so high, even with a draggy kite that doesn't fly very far forward in the wind window ?? Resistance. Hydrofoils provide lift via a foil section. Planing boards sit on the water and push the water out of the way. At low speeds (1-5knots let's say...

Re: Pushing kite to the front of the window to go upwind

Don't get into Matteo vs Pulley argument! We've had enough of those for a week. But you are both right. The less range of a C-kite is definitely foundational to that discussion. If you are on a bow/delta SLE, you can just sheet out on a gust. You also can sheet in, and sometimes want to. Either way,...

Re: What influences going upwind

Actually go try a board meant for upwind work, you might learn something Ya know, besides the "sectors" or full on race boards, I've never come across one. And honestly, I was never a fan of either because of how they sacrificed freestyle performance which made them too narrowly focused. I had to a...

Kayakers rescued off Kwinana during severe weather https://www.917thewave.com.au/news/local-news/kayakers-rescued-off-kwinana-during-severe-weather/ Cmon buddy.. No kitesurfer would kite on that storm. I know. Was there. Plus, there is a thread down here where windsurfer lost his life in almost the...

Re: Pushing kite to the front of the window to go upwind

The kite is your power plant. Use it sheeted in for maximum speed. This allows you to then produce more force from your edge and/or fins. Maximum power is developed just before stall. But that is a variable position on the bar dependent on apparent wind angle and apparent wind strength. Maximum effi...

Re: What influences going upwind

Seriously discussing fin Layout on surf boards as the ultimate upwind weapon… fml Yeah there's lots there. Playing with fin cant, toe in, placement, and a host of other properties. On top of that, interesting how prone surfing fin layouts were sometimes good for upwind, and sometimes bad for it. I ...

Re: What influences going upwind

Off topic PullStrings I have yet to try a transition downloop with my 21m Speed 5 as it takes up most of the sky and I'd probably crash it. Go for an Ozone Chrono II. Best looping kite in the 15+ sizes I've ever used. Stalls nicely for a stalked loop too and no need to legnthen the lines for it. Sp...
