Re: great gift for a kiter

Got my changing poncho as a gift, and use it often. At the same time I got the circular plastic pad to stand on while changing. It's got a drawstring around the edge, so you plop your wetstuff on it and pull the drawstring to create a nice, tidy sack for all that sandy, nasty wet gear. Great gifts.

Re: Aerodynamically better leading edge

15 - 20 years ago windsurfing race sails had lots of cambers and a HUGE luff pocket to reduce the turbulence on the inside trailing side of the mast. This made for a very fast sail, very stable at high speed, but super heavy and nearly impossible to raise out of the water to do a waterstart with the...

Re: Opinions. on snowboard bindings. for snowkiting

I'm not a very demanding snowboarder or kiter. I like things relatively easy. I use Flow bindings, and like them for a couple of reasons. When I'm on a frozen lake with very little snow and light wind, launching can be a problem. It takes more screwing around to get the kite in the air, which is way...

Re: Kite size question

I usually ride either skis or a snowboard w/ Switchblade on thin snow cover over ice.

Kite size question

Sorry if this has been discussed to death somewhere on the forum, but I can't find an answer when I search. It's been a while since I've used an open foil kite. I've got a 12m Flexifoil Sabre (2009 vintage) and would like to know the approx. equivalent size in LEI. Is a 12m foil kite about the same ...

Re: Well that was interesting. Not.

Peter--nice graphic.I totally agree with you. When I seem to be having trouble getting upwind to my board, I tell myself to not point so high and I get to the board much more quickly, especially in rough water.

Re: What's the funniest thing you've seen?

At my local beach. Saw a guy I hadn't seen before pumping up a kite. He just didn't look like he knew what he was doing. Finally got rigged up. It was decent wind, so I asked him if he was new to the sport. He said "First time". I asked if he had taken lessons. He said "No, but I think I can figure ...

Re: Kite surf to snow kite transition

The exception to the "use a smaller kite" rule is when you have deep, loose snow (actual "powder"). There's a lot of resistance when kiting in that, so a bigger kite (equivalent to water size) makes sense. I second the note about pads. You can't wear too much padding, and make sure you've got a real...

Re: Is all drysuit material the same?

If you're warm enough while kiting and only have an issue on land between sessions, isn't the easiest and most straightforward fix to just put on a warm coat over your drysuit? All this retreating, washing, blow drying, etc. seems like a lot of extra effort, or am I missing something?
