Re: I Kited This 17 Year Old Kite

My friend learned on (I think) a 4-line Naish ar5 and I learned on Windtools Mosquito ProKS, rigged two-line for the water. I did manage to learn to ride up-wind; providing I rigged the right size kite, chose the right board, and if I was operating these things within the approximately 5mph wind-ran...

Re: Is Kite hydrofoiling the fastest wind powered vessel in light winds

The official ice-boat speed record was set in 1938, on Lake Winnebago, WI, USA. I've kited the same lake in both summer and winter, and it's pretty big for an inland lake. Anyways, the official record is 143 mph, or about 124 knots. DNs are not particularly fast, and you might be able to beat one up...

Re: Kite foil combo

You never mentioned your weight and what size front wing you are using...

I'm 84 kg, on a Moses 633; I'm ok with a 9 meter liquid force solo, in ten knots, but my 6 meter flysurfer peak4 has about the same low-end and is easier to keep in the air if the wind drops out

Re: Wetsuit question - tight ankles

More than a decade and a half ago, I bought a fancy pair of cold-water booties (5/7mm?) that incorporated a very simple neoprene valve to drain out any excess water that got inside.

I wonder why this is not something used on the ankles of modern wetsuits?

Re: Flysurfer Peak Size

For me, and I understand it's personal preference, 20 meters is short lines.

The three meter Peak 4 is simply amazing within the range where it works on 20 meter lines.

Re: Wetsuit question - tight ankles

The plastic shopping bag suggestion is golden, and I use it a few times week, during the season, when I don't have time to completely dry out the fanciest suit I own. The irony of the fact that a guy with no feet pointed it out, is not lost on me! .. .Same trick works good on your hands/arms too... ...

Re: Flysurfer Peak Size

The only time peaks lack up-wind on a hydrofoil is at the extreme low-end in dead-onshore wind. If I have problems, I just rig the next size up, and in those conditions it will probably work way better for riding the shore-break. Upwind, the Peak kites are at least equal to any wave-specific lei, an...

Re: Flysurfer Peak 4

I still use the 5 meter, sometimes. My point is that after getting the 6 and 11, I never choose the 8. I think peter frank has made basically the same point multiple times on this thread, except he is maybe 10 kg lighter than me. You got to be 100 kg plus to think that the 8 meter can drift. I like ...

Re: Bacteria eating strut connectors

Plastic things get old. Plastic things that are designed to be soft get brittle with age, regardless of use. That's just the way it is.

Re: Lightwind TT or Directional Board

A low-rocker wide surfboard will be superior, but only once you learn to use it correctly. That means driving the board off the fins, not off the rail. Totally different technique, if you are used to riding a twintip. Point your toes and try to keep the board flat as you can, until you feel the feel...
