Re: Suicide mode when doing high jumps/megaloops?

In big air it's very rare for the chicken loop to come out. But it is still possible and that is the point. It can also happen during a session, for example after a crash where the lines got slack for a moment and the chicken loop is not properly attached to the hook anymore. This can also happen w...

Re: Suicide mode when doing high jumps/megaloops?

Can you remember the yank as the kite powered up again and dragged you through the water? Yes. But if I have to choose between freefalling from 10m and the yank, I choose the yank. It sounds like a lot of the thinking here is about failure of the QR during a jump - presumably because of the high pr...

Re: Suicide mode when doing high jumps/megaloops?

There seems some confusion about terminology. When I say "suicide", of course I mean semi-suicide. Full suicide is out of discussion for me. If you accidentally unhook and release the bar - even in suicide - then the kite is going to fly over your head and lose all lift. Are you certain? But this is...

Suicide mode when doing high jumps/megaloops?

I am now entering a stage where I can jump consistenly 10m+ and doing kiteloops at the same height. I was wondering if and at which point it makes more sense to ride in (semi) suicide mode. I've seen that a lot of the big air pros always ride in suicide mode lately. I suspect that their main reason ...

Re: What kiteloop kite in 19-24kn?

Looking for an early catch of about 4-5m jump height. There is no such kite, because that is simply not the "no safe zone" for looping. 4-5m is exactly where you shouldn't loop because this where your kite is already far in the wind window and any loop will yank you more, meaning you need more time...

Re: Core XR Pro Aluula

Interesting thing is that Lorenzo is the only person to do triples on a production kite and a kite anyone can go out and buy now. A kite also that isn't priced in the D Lab range. Evo DLAB is only available in 6m and Lorenzo, Liam etc. are using a 5m so they couldn't use a DLAB...? I agree. There i...

Re: Duotone SLS Bladders

So this question goes to the one that fixed a leaking SLS bladder. Did you manage to find pin holes and patch them? Was the bladder good after that? Or is the only true solution to replace the bladder? In short, can it be fixed by the DIY person experienced in bladder repair or is it a lost battle....

Re: Core XR PRO Aluula

Aluula or any lightweight leading edge material will not impress me until the build kites specifically for the material. I would rather have stiffer smaller frame to reduce drag than a lighter large frame to reduce weight over regular dacron which is very durable. But this is exactly what Duotone a...

Re: Quick releases opening unintended?

Looks like he can't release anymore at all? Then why not just get rid of the whole QR and chicken loop combo?

This is all getting out of hand. We need new ISO standards urgently. I stick with my opinion that we need different standards for different people/riding styles.

Re: Mast length as a function of body length

Does not mast length influence the sensitivity to pitch of the foil? Yes. Longer mast = more pitch sensitive? No. It's the other way around. A smaller mast provides higher pitch sensitivity and is more direct because it's a shorter "lever" and less input is required to make it pitch more. That's al...
