Re: Self-teaching

Yes, to teach friends you need old crappy kites you don't mind them crashing hard. The MOST IMPORTANT part in teaching yourself is finding a huge, open beach without anyone around. If this isn't possible then you can't teach yourself at all. Learning to kite is very dangerous to yourself and especia...

Re: Self-teaching

I taught kiting from 2003-2009 or so, and still occasionally teach friends for free. If you are trying to do it on your own: 1. Get a trainer kite and really practice alot 2. Watch instructional videos and read all about learning to kite 3. Buy a setup including an appropriately sized kite for your ...

Re: Wetsuits: Front Zip Vs Back Zip

Another trick is wearing an impact vest and/or life jacket in the winter. This totally stops wind to your core, adds a bit of insulation, and obviously is crucial if sh!t hits the fan and your in for a coldwater swim.

Re: Best gloves for kiting

i wonder if it's worth gluing a strip of old wetsuit to the palmar side of gloves/mittens to help make a more permanent pre-curve and help alleviate some of the strain of gripping...

Re: How to ruin your vacation with Core

Just a lemon kite, call them and get a new one for free hopefully. Could happen with any brand, just a warranty issue. To all you blaming the rider: no way should any kite split on impact with water. Kites are super strong and generally can be tomahawked onto the beach without problems. I used to te...

Re: Balance question - before I get my drill out....

Back foot is usually just at the rear bolts, as shown in previous picture.

Ditch the back hook and go strapless, much better

Re: Wetsuits: Front Zip Vs Back Zip

Wow those needessentials suits are pretty cool! IF you have trouble getting your suit on, try the plastic bag trick: put you foot or hand (whatever you are trying to insert into the suit) into a plastic shopping bag and push, your arm/leg will slide right through without hassle, then you pull off th...

Re: Wetsuits: Front Zip Vs Back Zip

That video is pretty lame because the makers obviously don't surf which is the primary market for high-end wetsuits. Just get a top-of-the-line zipperless surf suit from oneill or rip curl etc. Easy on/off, so comfortable, super flexible, ultralight. I have the rip curl flashbomb 3/2 zipperless and ...

Re: Warmer booties trick

Put your booties over your wetsuit (opposite of surfing style). Prevents elephant legs and most flushing.
