Re: Shoulders Forward?

Re: shoulders forward..... Sorry, just cant dig it. like sitting or lying down on your foil. Novelty at best. Narrowing your base decreases agility. For any kind of dynamic carving, riding swell.... sideways stance is where its at! Can't say I agree about the novelty aspect, I do it all the time on...

Re: Referral for a good beginner kite instructor for the Bay Area

Track down Inanc Ino, he's a facebook user so available that way. Not sure what shop he's affiliated with down there but I think he's lined up with one or two plus kite camps etc. He's got a background as a gymnastics instructor so good with youngsters. He's not a take the money and run guy, has his...

Re: SupaEZ Where have you been?

Read my comment above. Well, one comment says it was for being mean to other users, one says it was for being mean to you, one says you deleted a bunch of personal attacks, and one says that Starsky is posting under a new name and that he's got to be nicer. If the last one is what you are referring...

Re: SupaEZ Where have you been?

I'm reviving this thread just to say that it really rubs me the wrong way that Starsky was kicked off the forum. SupaEZ too but especially Starsky. That guy had 4k+ posts to this forum. They ranged from helping beginners to deep dives on technique and gear and included taking measured swipes at some...

Re: Do I need to do lock stitching on a brummel splice??

Thanks to those who have posted on having success with not stitching. Any one had a failure with a no stitch brummel? Yes, but not kiting. I work on boats and have seen spectra slip having gone through twice and then tucking the tail. However the load was way higher than kiting would ever put on it...

Re: Any self taught out there?!

I think you'll find plenty of self taught people on here, I self taught, and most of us will say we wish we had someone to teach us. You can tell an instructor that you want to focus on just the self rescue, relaunch etc. and they will be willing to work with you on those parts that you need hands o...

Re: Stupid question - what does overpowered feel like?

Plenty of fine advice on here, I'll mention the way I describe it to beginning students who have no reference on edging or riding - by pounds of force. Using my own weight for reference (170 lbs.), if the bar is in and I'm getting more than 70 lbs of lateral force, then the riding will be less fun a...

Re: What is a Backroll?

A half cab is a switch roll-to-revert. ? Major definition drift occurred here. A cab is a caballairial, a backside 360 from fakie, not switch, specifically one pivoting from the forward portion of the board. A half cab is half of that. Fakie to fakie when Caballero did it on transitions, fakie to s...

Re: Holding the bar while riding toeside

Are you gripping thumb up or thumb down? I don't spend much time with my thumb down when on toeside, it seems like it puts the shoulder in an awkward position. If you always switch to thumb up you can drop your elbow and generally make it more natural feeling.

Re: Launch Unhooked!

If the reason you figure you need to launch or land unhooked is because you are slow to use the QR that is easily fixed by training. Using the QR should be as easy and as quick to do as letting go of the chicken loop. The real problem here is people who aren't able to use the QR quickly. If you hol...
