Re: Wingsurfing wing construction

Kai did! From 6'30" There you go, proof of concept! Reading the comments, I'm reminded the big brand name for these was "Wind Weapon", searching that finds some info in this thread about the evolution of inflated wings from these rigid versions: https://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php/topic,348...

Re: Wingsurfing wing construction

Interesting, their site says "The Kitewing is a hand held wingsail designed for sailing on low friction surfaces." and talks about ice, pavement, beach. Their site doesn't talk about foils, not in any of their promo videos, etc. My impression is this kind of thing failed in the water back in the day...

Re: Wingsurfing wing construction

I was thinking about that the other day, the bendy poles used for tents create structure under immense pressure....seems like that technology could maybe help wings. Especially big wings for light wind, where the leading edge gets pretty big diameter to handle the load -- my ozone must have been a f...

Re: Small boards are often tricky....

The worst boards in my opinions are in that MIDDLE area. Around your own weight, or minus 10kg....Your not really sinking, your not really floating. Balance is hell. The board still feels heavy to fly. With a 39L your IN THE WATER balanced. Wait for a gust, pump and ride. Thats it. You fall, you wa...

Re: Small boards are often crap....

It's a rehash of the kitefoil debates about pocket foilboards. The tradeoff of riding performance vs overall functionality (and safety). As well as the same peer pressure, where you're a kook if you aren't sizing down. I suspect there's some mitigating factors about location: better wind, better sea...

Re: Cleanest Ice in Years - Aluula Glide too

pics upside down for me too we had a rare cold spell here and we tried wing skate one afternoon, also with the OR A series. What a gas, sure doesn't take much wing to get going, even in tiny gusts I started to feel that edge of control (realizing I am not the skater I was 20 years ago LOL). The wing...

Re: Wing punctures?

Bottom line is, get good at bladder repairs ... or get used to selling at a discount. :x :-? Half the year we kite in rain, so i am used to drying kites. Though I have become increasingly paranoid about hanging these wings, in case of bladder twisting. My latest system: leave the center stru...

Re: Wing punctures?

salt crystals makes some sense. Or even just more likely to get sand grains in the leading edge, which then cause abrasion. It is pretty common in shore pound conditions that the wing will get some wave rinsing -- way more common than kiting. But also just the nature of rigging, leaving in between s...

Re: Advice on next wing?

Follow up...I got my 4m 6m combo. The 4m aluula maxed out in high 30s or early 40s. In the squalls I could only race downwind. So a 3m isn't order for the high wind days. As for 3m at 20kt...not really my cup of tea, as I don't like feeling barely powered. I also didn't like using a 5m kite in 15kt ...
