Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

Been a while since I've contributed to this forum because I feel the discussion to better when its by the less-bias. Have continued to monitor it out of interest for what's on rider's minds despite it often being hard to filter out the dishonesty from some with an agenda. Was so hurt this last week ...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

Gigi;) - Everything I've experienced suggests that the TE is under less stresses than a conventional kite. I believe there's been plenty of time to confirm that. What makes you suggest otherwise? The same goes for light wind relaunch. Regarding the panels, I'm familiar with the designs your describi...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

herculon - Thanks for the great news! :) Since I had the scale out, I grabbed the 8 just to see. 4.7 lbs / 2.13 kg. With all the news this week of brands launching strutless designs, if a weight war is waged as a result it will be critical in my opinion for riders to be aware of the huge % of weight...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

BWD- Thanks for the comments and for sharing the video. DrLightWind- I was waiting to reply to you on the kite you had pictured, but looked back now and see its gone. Don't think I'm familiar what that kite was. Looked interesting. What brand/model/year? For the way it sat in the beach, wondering if...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

xray - I googled: 13 - 40 knots = 15 - 46 mph: That's some pretty strong wind!!! For that, think I'd be inclined to go with a 5/8m quiver over the 6/10m. But I tend to rider on the smaller side. Outside of the super strong wind you indicate, yeah, 6/10m is a great call and could cover me for the vas...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

Pierrot - Agreed, demo is the best way to go. Best done with an open mind and full knowledge of the strong tendency to like what we are most accustomed to, making it hard to wrap our mind around different gear even if it could open new opportunities we'd appreciate after a little adjustment. Hat's o...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

Osprey - Wow. I'm feeling the love Man. THANK YOU! Readers have got to think I've got you on the payroll (as if I have a payroll, ha!) But, really, thank you. I'm not with you on the idea to slide the stopper down - be free Baby! I'm totally joking - entirely a matter of personal preference - ride'e...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

Tautologies - Thanks for the stoke. dafish - Thanks for the stoke. "Old school" makes me think of doing a deadman on an AR5. Alaias and the papio - that's ancient school, right? Math behind the science? Yeah, maybe. I use clean, simple curves any where I can for everything I design. So, outside of a...

Re: Strutless kite in development on Maui

dafiah - Thanks. alexrider - Thanks. John-B - Thanks for your suggestion. Gigi - Bummer about your site. GregK - Thanks for your comments. I totally agree. The only time I've had any kind of failure on the kites is when I ditched my bar in the waves, it got stuck on bottom, loading the kite up massi...
