Re: First wing board size: must it be weight + 40?

I agree with Bragnouff, you'll do fine on your 105L, after having success on your SUP. You'll find it somewhat challenging, but easier as long as wind is decently steady. That's probably a good size for your wife to learn on, though bigger the better on the first day IMHO -- make balancing easy to i...

Re: Don't respond if you are a beginner/intermediate!

I am in Vancouver Island Canada along Juan de Fuca Strait...deep water, lots of current, unfortunately the water temp doesn't change much summer to winter. Surfing background: 5/4 suit is standard, hood, booties, gloves in winter; summer take off the hood and gloves. Though for wind chasing, I wear ...

Re: Don't respond if you are a beginner/intermediate!

Before giving my opinion, some context: permanent advanced intermediate here!  Reasonably decent at all the board sports, but been around long enough to know I am never going to be that flashy ripper in any of them.  I value function far above fashion. I want to be able to chase the lightest winds a...

Re: How to stop an upside down board equaling a hole in the wing canopy

I am about to jinx myself / anger the gods ... but I've had fairly good success in the water too with avoiding cuts, compared to the early days at least. Same as you fluidity, I try to keep wing with me and let the board go on leash. Priority is keeping them apart. My last few cuts have been on land...

Re: How to stop an upside down board equaling a hole in the wing canopy

Winging is great in many ways. That's the worst! Such a helpless feeling when things go wrong. This has happened to me a few rides...Iike you said I held wing away and let board get taken by waves, until one flipped it. If there is a lull it is probably stable enough you can carefully approach and f...

Re: cutouts wingfoil boards

Trent: agree with you this sport is in infancy, only been restarted for 3-4 years, it really is being figured out as we go. But strongly disagree with sitting on the sidelines and waiting...join us on the learning curve. :-) Though it pays to be on last year's rad board at 50% price vs this year's a...

Re: cutouts wingfoil boards

I’m building a big 150liter light wind board. Full flat rectangle prism with wedge cut out of front. Straight lines, flat surfaces. We’ll see how it rides. 66x27x6in. That reminds me of that joke a few years ago, about someone stealing and sharing Kalama's newest board design profile: rectangle.jpg...

Re: cutouts wingfoil boards

So you can discuss for days to come, you will only find a true answer if you have the take off speed of any foil and compare the amounts of drag of different types of boards at this speed. The board with less drag will fly earlier given board and rider are same weight How this drag is to be minimiz...

Re: Light wind winging

Ocean Rodeo Aluula 6m and Gofoil GL240 (1875cm2) with the biggest tail I have, looking forward to trying out the new 20". I ride a 32" mast and 90L board in everything. I have a 110L sup foil that I bring out sometimes, easy to stand on in flat water. Same as Stella, 10-12kt is about the minimum I t...

Re: Wingsurfing wing construction

I wonder if there may be some big improvement coming that changes everything. The wing resurgence is only 3 years old, there was an initial race to market, and it seems pretty clear everyone copied the early adopters just with small tweaks. On the other hand, there’s a whole bunch of extremely smart...
