Re: Whip or Wam 2013

I got used to my north kontact 6.1 (I am 75 kg), strapless. Small waves to no wave at all, flat to very choppy conditions. Tried a whip 5.6 or 5.8 not sure recently, strapless, was totally unable to make a nice turn ... I think taht was 2014 version, it was a thruster. Fins felt more flexible than o...

Re: Downlooping w/out chaod or stopper ball

'Safer depower' length is an oxymoron and I am sure most experienced riders who learnt on the early kites would agree. A canopy behaves like crap 'depowered' in heavy conditions. Ian Alldredge & Patrick Rebstock fro example are using an extremely long depower throw. Could be related to the fact tha...

Re: Small kites jump higher? Nope!

Lets face it. Ultimately Toby is right. Regardless of what the maths state. All other factors being equal. The reality is that a bigger kite will take you higher on any given day if you can still hold an edge, load and pop effectively Once you can't load your edge any more the a smaller kite will t...

Re: Small kites jump higher? Nope!

there is only so much kinetic energy when you jump, The key is how little loss there is when you convert that kinetic energy into height. Suppose the wind speed is 35 knots, you are going 25 knots on a reach and boost, apparent wind is 43 knots that's the kinetic energy you'll be using, g is 10 m/s...

Re: Small kites jump higher? Nope!

ok for the danger problem. So now, what about the height ? Let's take a classic: Cab switch 7m in 30 kts and 9m in 25 kts, that's their respective official upper wind range, as per cab's website. What makes you jump: - rider's speed - edging hard before jump - throwing the kite back and above before...

Re: Small kites jump higher? Nope!

35*35*7=8575 25*25*18=11250 That is, 31% more power on the 18 m. romkite that is only correct to calculate the pull of the kite. But in order to find the kinetic energy it is 1/2 mv^2, where v is not your speed in relation to the water but your speed in relation to the wind . If you want to convert...

Re: Small kites jump higher? Nope!

[...] a 7m in 35 knots is a lot more dangerous than an 18 in 25. The reason is that the there is so much more kinetic energy (about twice as much) at 35 knots over 25 knots. [...] 35*35*7=8575 25*25*18=11250 That is, 31% more power on the 18 m. The reason that small kites jump higher is you use the...

Re: Overall Bridal Stretching?

It's been my experience that any line that goes through a pulley will shrink. You mean stretch, eh? Do a search on an article by Armin on this Forum, he explains that Spectra/Dyneema does not stretch... it shrinks. Armin explains how. This is consistent with my experience. It is in the very specifi...

Re: Overall Bridal Stretching?

A3 is the front pulley line. Did you measure your other rear pulley line? I think your right, the performance for me came from the rear P line replacements.. We both know the p-line issue, no need to measure that one which I changed 2 days ago. I think this post was about the other lines of the bri...

Re: Overall Bridal Stretching?

The plines shrink. No I didnt create my own bridle...but I probably should. Bridle can be purchased from the SS website. Have not found the specs...nor any code deciphering document for the new bridle labels...put it on wrong and flew it..thing was all fucked up...for those who purchase a new one t...
