swivels

Postby Elia » Wed Mar 17, 2004 9:16 am

Looking for a swivel that I can use on my CL to make my own spinning leash. The one that is recommended by some is this fishing tackle oneImage its good to 500lbs and uses bearings. You get 12 for $50. Is this going to be strong enough??

I don't think 500 lbs is enough.

if it´s good for a big white one it should do it  - think it´s less than one flying line, so you´d rather visit a sailors shop !?

I agree but where to find one that tests for 1000lb or better 1500lb is the question. Can't find a online store. They also have to be cheap and have bearings

I just surfed around for a bearing swivel. Here are two suitable swivels that I found:

Ronstan RF78B
RWO R2084

Both have breaking strain around 1700kg but are not big (60g).

I couldn't find much info on the web. Bought mine from LDC in UK.

Not tried it yet!

do you think this would work at the shackle end, or would you need to do it at the depower strap. i'm sick of spinning mine by hand also.

shouldn´t make a difference to be either up or down the depower line, should it ? just two ends of one unit ..

was thinking that, but the friction from the bar on the rope could impeed it's function. do the two ends have diffrent frictions at them? i would think yes from the point that the bar is in the middle but i'm not a rocket man i have noticed that when i spin my shackel at times i need to move the bar to release some pressure to unspin and that most likely is from it being jambed up to the depower strap.
