About Globerider Curl 18

Postby agriarte » Mon May 17, 2004 9:34 pm

Did anyone test the Globerider Curl 18?

I have got one wich I used 5 times. With +12 knots, it works right but when the wind blows lower I notice it needs more power to go upwind. I see that other people ( with Cabrinha 16, Rhino 16 and 18 ) go better than me with low wind.

Firstly, the bar was lower than it is now but I had this problem: when I pulled off then the kite went down easily. Now, I have ajusted the back lines so the bar is now higher and it seems it works a little better. The KPO is setting in the original position ( f1-f5,b1 ). With this setting I have sailed well while the wind is between 12 – 16 knots. My weight: 74kg. Board: Best Balsa 1.38.

If someone have flown with this model in sizes 18 or even 15 then I would like you let me know minimum wind which you go upwind and how do you have ajusted the KPO.

It sounds like you need to shorten your back lines even more. You are not getting the full benefit or the KPO. I can go on my 15 Curl when everyone else is on other brand 18's and bigger.
I have slightly modified the KPO on my bigger kites by making them longer. I made the line longer and attached it to F1 and F7. This makes the kite turn even faster and gives it a little more grunt. This also lenghtens the front lines, so you have to adjust the backs accordingly.

When I test rode the Curl 15 I was very impressed by the low end. It was better than my other brand 16.X.
I think the Curl 15 will be my "big" kite.
It flies so well, easily steered with one hand on a 50cm bar!
I love this kite

I liked it so much I wanted to buy one on the spot.
Unfortunately they were all sold out.

GK are they here yet?

Thanks for the tip GK,
I'll give that a try

Have been out lately on the 15.
I pay for days after as my wrist is still trashed (broken)

However, the 15 is working as I had hoped
its my big kite for the way I ride @220lbs
MPH
12- 16= surfboard/wave riding

15-20= mutant/ boosting +waves

havent had it out with the wake yet, but
I think it will work at 18- 25, although I'd probably
change down a kite size
if the wind was sustained

Agriarte:

These kites will work however you want them to
it does take time to get the settings dialed in
They are deceptive in the fact
that they do not show Flare (oversheeting)
as easily noticable like most kites.

A little past neutral (5 cm?)is good for light wind
too much, the kite loses low end
no back line pressure=no low end

experiment, like I still am, you'll find there is a huge range

The way I found the tuning for my kite the quickest
was to make 3 sets of knots on the outside (back) leaders
they are about 5cm apart (2.5 in for US)
leave the front lines alone or just make even

for more perm settings, I am making the kite pigtails longer
after I figure out where that is
I also like the 3 knot rule here

I like having my fly lines all at the same length
that way when I switch between kites they are right
I can test periodically to see if any got out of shape
which they do, and I usually blame the kite until I check

Thank you, every response was well received.

However, if I shorten the back lines even more then I can't move the bar up and down because it will be very higher.

Is that what you want to say me?

hey,
if your bar is set "too high" and you can't reach it well, therefore you're can't rider well. The reason is:
* your back lines are too short

If you make your back lines longer, you will have less power. So, you want to make your front lines longer. To do that, you can either, make you chicken loop longer, or make you front leader lines longer. You also could put extensions on your front lines.

Good luck and keep in touch,

It sounds like you need to shorten your CL. I shorten mine by about 5 or 6 inches (15cm).

CL is chicken loop i think in the context they are using it. Why does everyone abbreviate? it is so annoying.
