Egypth question (for Toby ?)

Postby El_Gran_Extractor » Mon Aug 16, 2004 3:15 pm

I'm going the first 2 weeks of september to Egypth (red sea) for kiting of course. My wife and I both kite and we are not much interested in night life. Which place is the best to go considering:

- if possible wind but not too much (like + 6 bft isn't for us) so not the most windy place plz

- flat water

- not too much sharks

- safety (so no offshore wind places)

- not too crowded

- lagune's waist deep water is a plus but not necessary

- perhaps a nice village for some souveriers

- all we wanna do is kite (during the day ofcourse, at nigth .. 8) ) so don't consider other things

Any hotel recommendations ? Price is NO ISSUE cause it's already cheap in Egypth.

Kite quiver (shared with the wife):

Cabinha Co2 14, Co2 10, Co2 (2005 hopefully it will arrive in time) 6.5
I'm thinking of leaving the contra 19.5 at home cause it's a big bag with the carbon battens in the wingtips and I don't want to have it destroyed.

Thanx

BTW, I looked at kitebeaches and it's a great information source but I would like to have some extra advice considering the above .

either Magawish or El Gouna.

I prefer Magawish, since you have a hotel directly at the spot, have a waistdeep trainings bay, and a great sandbar with flat water in front of the center.

And internet via WLAN direct at the station!

And the best rescue team I know of. Perfect for practising and don't have to worry about anything!

CHEAP!

Food/hotel is ok. no huge building, just bungalows , nice!

Lots of Naish gear to test and rent.

Greets

how is egypt in end of october/beginning of november? judging from colona watersports it is the worst possible time to kite there. anyone has been there at that time of year?

any other good places at that time of year? cheap, warm, windy, close to europe etc

Beginning of November: I was there last year.
Great spot, see Toby's description in the posting above.
However, the closer you come to year end, the less wind there is.
We had 3 days out of seven.

Hope this helps,

stefannn

until middle of October there is good wind. then it is like roulette, you can have 2 weeks of wind or no wind at all. Everything is possible.
Close to Europe I don't know anything with better wind and still warm....

As far as the food is concerned there are better places than Magawish, not on the spot but near by!

Toby, I am considering going to magawish.
2 more questions:

1) which hotel to pick: magawish hotel or sofitel ? I don't mind the price I don't mind walking 5 minutes but I DO want to kite in front of that magawish hotel and the colona club. And is it also possible to kite on the 700m private beach of the sofitel ?
Btw, is it possible to start in the beginners area, go to the sandbar from there and sail to colona watersports ?

2) it is a crowded spot like tarifa or cabarette in september ?

Thanx :bye:

Hi,
There is a great spot in Barwaki.
Its in the Red Sea and only twenty minutes north of Dahab or one and a half hours north of Sharem El Sheiq.
There is a kite school/shop opening there in two weeks and its an unbelievable place to learn and to just kite. The water is completely flat and there is sand a meter deep for 400 meters into the water.
Just heaven for learning.
The school is located next to Barwaki Hotel and the wind blows there almost all year long.
If you have any other questions let me know
yaron
