Hey dude, I live in dubai and I'm learning the sport, getting up on the board but not quite yet...

anyway kiting here is reasonably good, except that the winds are usually light!

Today was a good day, we had 15 knots... but this isn't quite the windy season yet so most days range from 8-13 knots- bring your biggest kites! sizes 14-16-18 pretty much covers regular conditions, we sometimes get 20 knots but that is very rare.

another problem is that the official kite-beach has a limited launch and land zone, so on fridays and public holidays it gets very crowded.

On the other hand, you could always drive down to jebel ali (30 mins drive fron dubai) and enjoy huge stretches of empty beach, with huts and showers all the way down... this is the best place to surf on fridays... or any day really!

The level of kite surfing is actually quite high in Dubai. Not really many locals in to the sport and while there is quite a few expats in the sport there are also a fair amount of people instructing. As fuzz said the wind is light …. Very light but they usually get a few days every week in the winter. FYI great place to but cheap gear!

Wollongong Beach for beginners?

Postby Philipp » Tue Nov 09, 2004 9:02 pm

Hi guys,

was thinking about going to Dubai beginning of December and - as I take my girl-friend along - would like to know if the Wollongong Beach is also suited for beginners? It looks like there isn't too much space available for drifting downwind ...

And for me: Any chance that the wind is stronger than 18knots during that time?

Thanks

Philipp

Have any of the Dubai locals heard about a date for the 2005 Red Bull? Us Saudi Expats need to get out and see the world every once in awhile...

Regarding the Red Bull King of the Air, I heard that it will take place this year in Aseelha (Oman) this summer. The Monsoon is strong at that time min of 30 Kts every day and sweet waves...
One other event will certainely be hold this April in Dubai.

I would highly doubt that it would happen in Oman, they would have to bring everything and arrange things with the locals. It would take a lot to organize it and would get little to no coverage. It better to just come down and ride rather than have a comp.
