Nothing new there.
I remember seeing them in an article called "Uphill Skiing" in the
now-defunct OMNI magazine about 20-25 years ago. You release
the center line to spill air out of the center of the 'chute when you
want to stop.

The article I read had sequence shots of a guy riding one fast up a slope,
off the steep spine of a ridge, flying right off and "parachuting"down the
other side.
