any Tarifa locals here?

Postby Ron » Sun Jul 03, 2005 12:44 pm

i have few more Tarifa questions for you, thanks for any help : :)

1. Is there a kitespot right at the Dune in Punta Paloma?

2. what is the recommended kite spot between Tarifa town and punta paloma?

3. for kiting, where would you recomed staying, in town or out side of town? I am not so much into night life and getting drunk, so i am not looking for parties etc (been there done that got sick of it  )
.... i am looking for just pure kiting an relax..

4. do i have to have a car to go up and down the beach of palaya the los lances to find the right wind, or is it just where ever you go?

5. in Aug/Spet is the wind east or west?

thanks

1) yes, with Levante wind ( East)
2)any....Tarifa till Los Lances all coast line approx 8 km are Poniente ( West ) wind spots ( Los Lances is half way to Las Dunas )
3) in this case better outside the town....
4) with out a car you are death.....
5)hm.....you never know, most likely Poniente ( West ) nice not to strong good for 12-13-14 and 16-17-18 kites we use to get at 5.00 pm the thermals.....nice warm wind

If possible September.....better winds and less crow and not so hot
August is crazy....half Spain is on vacation.....and half of your gear may be stolen .....the one which you left on you car :o

Also there are about 20 hotels / motels out side Tarifa , very nice and quite...coutry side, horses....cows etc :D

Have fun

I've been a Tarifa local for 5 weeks last year :P and had the best holiday ever. Had a 3000 km drive to Tarifa, but it was worth it. It's the best place I've ever been.

If you like a tent at a camping spot, I can recommend you camping Rio Jara. It's the closest camping to town. With high tide, there's a lagoon on the beach (20-40 cm water) between Rio Jara and Tarifa. That's perfect for Poniente winds and/ or sunset sessions. The camping is really good and relaxed. Nice people there, espacially the guy from Jamaica. In weekends it can be very crowde4d in August, with a lot of music and yelling by locals who stay at the camping to go out in Tarifa. Between the weekend, it's good to relax.

You can kitesurf just in front of the camping (between Tarifa and Punta Paloma).

Rent a car. You'll be a nono without it there. You'll need it to go to other spots like Punta Paloma (Las Dunas) Bolonia or Canos de Mecca. For instance: We had 50 to 60 knots Levante in front of the camping and "only" 30 knots at Canos de Mecca at the same time. Sometimes you have to move.

Nobody can say how the wind will be at a particular time. You just have to wait and see. I was there from the end of June till the beginning of August. I had about 80% of kiteboarding days (kitesizes 10 to 18 m2) and a couple of days windsurfing. Wind continiously was 2 - 3 days Poniente and then 3 - 4 days Levante. we had a 30 knots poniente for 2 days, which is really perfect!

I'll be back in Tarifa next year! (end of May)

Hey Panchito, maybe I met you last year. I've been at Punta Paloma a lot (at club Mistral). I was flying Kiteloose Patriots (Italian colours, green white red)

Yeah....The Lagoon......we call it " La Charca " this is the best place to kite around......but is only full every time to time

I had the best sessions of my life at the Lagoon.....last time it was full from the Stadium ( La Jaima ) till Hotel Dos Mares.....aprox 5 km of flat water......great...and just knee high water.....awesome
