Red Bull King Of The Air, Then and Now

Postby RickI » Sun Oct 16, 2005 8:48 pm

There should be a ton of incredible stills, video and STORIES to come out of the final Red Bull King Of The Air. It sounds like the conditions were truly epic. Looking forward to seeing all that comes out of this event.

In the meantime, there are some short video clips at:
http://redbull.com/homepage.action?hasQuicktime=true

Also, there is a interesting slide show looking back across King of the Air competitions all the way back to 1999. I can remember hearing about it in '99 and thinking wow, a real kiteboarding competition, what a novelty! I still have the video of the event, great stuff.

Check out the Red Bull KOA retrospective at:

They also have some video shots from the rider's perspective at:

The event is now over but they have live cam shots from Hookipa at: http://www.redbullkingoftheair.com/virtual_kite.php

Thanks Red Bull for the great times!

Hey Rick~ Thanks for the links. So this was the last year for the King of the Air, huh? Anybody heard of a new sponsor coming in to keep it going? Or are there other issues, too?

Yes, it is a shame. Does anyone have an idea as to how many kiteboarding events Red Bull has sponsored over the years? Tons I would think. They even ponyed up a wad of cash for the Key West to Cuba Crossing.

They will not be easy to replace, still it is a great marketing opportunity for some key advertiser(s) out there.

How are things in Kauai?
