Night kite

Had a fun session the other night with a half moon giving more than enough light.
There were seven of us wanting to get on the water, but we limited the amount of kites on the water to three for obvious reasons. Attached cyalume to kites and boards.
Everyone had a great time, and it was a lot easier than most expected.
I had already done this in pitch black darkness, but here you have to know your spot inside out and it still is pretty spooky.

Don't fishermen attach lights to their boats to lure in fish at night? With all the talk of sharks in Australia at the moment I don't think I'll be trying it.

Hello,

Haven't done kiting in water at night but winter kiting is nice at the evening.

There can be quite dark but the moon and city lights reflects from the snow.. Actually it's not that dark. Some people use led lights (key ring or bicylce lights) on the tip of kite, it looks cool.

But it's very easy to forget things on ice when you are packing your stuff at night.

We did a full moon night session some time ago and had an absolute blast! At first you think you need to be extremely carefull but after 5 minutes you feel at home and you and you can see the others perfectly. I started doing all my normal tricks again.

Some points you have to think of though: Loosing your board is not so handy since it is not that well visible. When you spin your bar bak after rotations have a good look (or feel) what side you're pulling the bar since you don't see colors that well anymore it might be the 'other' end!

I had a night session at Sherman Island last year that absolutely rocked. Crazy smooth wind, full moon, good times! I just kept kiting when the sun went down. The only problem was finding the beach - I kept pulling in to places that I thought was the launch, but nope, not here. Found it eventually. :)

... I love a night kite and usually involves me drinking a few (I know, naughty boy)!!!! My last night kite session was on holidays in Bali and as usual at the end of a great day and a few beers, the wind comes back in. Ya, I'm in! Only this time I kited a point break with waves a couple miles away!! One of the freakiest moments was when I realized that I couldn't really see the waves with barely enough light to see the bar let alone the kite. I f'ing love it and was intense at times!!!! It's almost like sensory deprivation, hightened other senses indeed!

Really night kite?

I will have to give this ago, but how dark are you guys talking? cloudless sky and a full moon? light on your board incase you lose it?

Really fancy this now just thinking about it :)
