Surfboards- Best straps/pads to buy?

Postby surfinsmiley » Fri Jun 09, 2006 10:37 am

Hey Team,

I`m wondering if you can help me out here, I`m looking to put straps on my board and don`t know where to get em or who makes em. I`ve been searching for days and have come up with nothing.

I would like the ones that you can use switch if you have to,ie. ones you can step into either natural or goofy.

I would also like more under foot padding than normal surfboard deck patchs offer but maybe not as much as we have on normal twintwip style boards. With of course the option to take them off completely,ie. not stuck down on the deck.

Seems like a simply enough thing to buy but I just can`t find em!

Any body know of anything like that available?

For those that have strapped boards what style are the straps/pads and who made them. Any links would be greatly appreciated. :thumb:

Cheers.

Those French ones look perfect!
Good thickness and moveable foot positon which would be great because I use the same board for Kite and Tow surfing.

Getting ahold of some may well be a different story though.

The new stick down style from NSI also look pretty damn functional, without the need for sinking plugs into the board.

Any idea on how thick the NSI Surf n Skim Padz are?

Do they have a PVC/PET layer or is it only EVA right through?

Just wanted to Bump this Email and follow up...

I'm looking to get the Surf n Skim Padz from NSI. http://www.nsipadz.com/kitepadz2.html and throw them on Fish Surfboard to use in the waves at the ocean and as my light wind board when I'm in the bay.

I was just wondering if anyone has experience with a similar setup. Most importantly if the NSI pad inserts give the board enough structure that it won't snap in half on a landing.

Also, any suggestions on surf board size for a 160lbs (72kg) rider.

The NSI Surf-N-Skim pad does not provide
added structural strength to the board.
The imbedded insert plate is thin so it
flexes with the board and doesn't create
a hard spot.

The pads are dual density so they will
add some cushion for your heels and better
grip than a traditional single thickness surf
pad.

I'd say get a custom polyester board with
a thicker deck laminate or a Tuflite by
Surftech. I weigh 160lbs and I'm riding a
Rusty Project 5-11. If you're going to get
big air with a surfboard shape then go
with one specifically made for that. That's
really not the point of riding a surfboard
though.

I bought the surf an skim padz and am in the process of putting them on my 6'0 xanadu rocky. The pad construction is great. One gripe, the pads are $100 and don't come with hardware or straps. I bought the Dakine pro straps and the screw size I found that fit was 32 x 1/2" whatever the hell that means. I'm also trying to find the right position to place the padz since i'll only really have one shot at it. I tried to get up on my board without straps on a light wind day and couldn't get the technique down and got all f*cked up in my lines since I attached a reel leash on the back (fyi bad idea). So if anyone could give me tips on Pad placement i'd appreciate it. I'll write an update when I make it out.
