Is a waist harness better for toe side riding in the surf or riding in the surf, in general)

yes definetly. I use the Dakine Pryro 06 with a small 6" spreader bar and pad this lets the spreader bar position itself slightly more to your side as you carve into the wave toeside. The pull from the kite then comes from your side and just seems far more confortable.

Short answer: YES!!!
Longer answer: a waist harness enables your hips to become an effective pivot point, which gives you more flexibility and improves toe side riding.
I'd be happy to discuss further with you next time we see each other at the beach.
Good wind + waves, Zeev.

I also prefer waist in the waves. leverage is less and it squeeeezes your ribs in the jumps, but it rotates around nicely for the toeside ride down the line.
waist harneses seem to transfer the load through your soft bits when twisted like that, but it's still okay once they go numb

waists are the only harness for waves, they free up the lower body and allow you to pivot the board
