If you could go anywhere to kite, where would you go?

Hi All,

I'd love your input on dream spots- places you've been, or heard about, or studied on Google, etc. As we're a wandering yacht, we're constrained by wind, current, and cyclone season, and of couse decent places to lay the hook, but not much else. The general plan is: Year 1- Caribbean and South Pacific, Year 2- South Pacific and Micronesia (Gilberts, Phoenix, Carolines, Philippines), Year 3- Vietnam, Australasia, Year 4- Indian Ocean (Maldives, Seychelles, Madagascar, E Coast Africa), Year 5 Indian Ocean and Red Sea.

We've sailed much of the South Pacific and Australasia, have some good beta on the Caribbean, and will not give away prize spots, but some general ideas would be highly appreciated! Love to work them into the schedule if at all possible. The expedition is all about finding the unknown, but hitting a dream wave or wild downwinder never hurts!

Here's a pic of year one:

Sounds reasonable to me! Actually we found the pirate gig to be pretty overated. Although they sadly got Sir Peter Blake in Brazil, which was a huge loss to the sailing world, so you do need to keep a heads up. We submit to magazines from time to time and I've got a rule- when we find someplace really special names get changes, locations get...blurred. Can't give those spots away.

Cheers

Anywhere that has no internet or cell phones.

If I could go anywhere the list would have to include. Indo, Fiji, that little island off Mauritius...Rogrigues I think, Tahiti & Vietnam.

I don't unfortunatly have a year to spare so not likely to visit them on my next vacation.

F.One did a trip to Rodriguez that Stance turned out a DVD on in 2003- god, the waves and sunsets were insane. We spent quite a bit of time in Indo last year. The awesome surf spots up around the outside of Sumatra are too close to the equator for reliable wind, but the south side of Sumbawa is getting awesome coverage. Vietnam is insanely reliable- we've got to hit there this time (made it to Thailand but never got over to Vietnam). If you want some beta on Fiji let me know and I'll send you an email of an article we put in Wind and Kite awhile ago. We spent 4 months there in 2004- so many good spots. The most well known, Cloud and Wilkes are of course private (actually Wilkes is open, but easiest access is from Namotu, which is damn near impossible to stay on- booked out way way in advance and super spendy), but there's many lesser known spots that are awesome.

Thanks Island,

G

Vietnam is awesome and not too pricey- the kiting is like that of Brazil only Brazil has a better, longer season... Either way from the states, both are a pain to get to... but once there,, ahhh paradise!

Redcar UK, 3 lagoons open to all points of the compass, an outside large wave reef and 2 beach breaks all with the softest sand...when it goes off it's one of the best locations in europe but please keep it a secret.

slight downside.....one beach is called chemical works, another is around 100yds from a huge medievel industrial steelworks and well redcar town is kind of..well...a dungheap.

but hey when it rocks who cares eh??!! :thumb:
