Yep teaching my younger brother turned my back for a second as the other brother had let my two kids of 5 and 6 wonder off out of sight in a remote part of the world (yes he has no kids if you are wondering) and he loses board, panics drag himself in I spend the next two hours combing the ocean (and this was in broad midday daylightight) No board!! 900 bucks down the drain.

I reckon it has its place.

I have Go joes on both my boards. If its onshore or a nice shallow spot I will take it off. I lost a brand new Crazy Fly 2 years ago. I fell, the board was in sight, and then it was gone. Two other kiters tried to help, and none of us could spot it. Thats the thing with Gojoes, not only does the board head downwind , you can see the board.

I lost my Flyradical in onshore wind on the lake if the knife hadn't been missing from the pouch I might have kept an eye on it, but I wasn't worried at the time as there wasn't anywhere for it to go... or so I thought

Not quite that far north but getting there. There still existed the occasional more dangerous species (the Homo sapiens) coming and going in cars, that was my concern.

Hey I lost my crazy fly as well, it was the cruiser. Didn't help the cruiser was the same aqua blue as the water!!

Hmm, maybe one of those tall orange triangular flags they put on the three-wheeled bicycles for the old people who might be run down in traffic without them? How about one of those diving buoys? Seem like reasonable safety features...

Yeh, i forgot my gojoe one day so i just fitted a big sign saying 'I'm a massive homosexual' to my board and it worked just as well.

Has anyone used anything else to help board visibility?

I saw a board for sale once that had a red laminate on the bottom. Looked like it would really make the board stand out. I intend to try it, but I haven't found where buy a roll of the stuff.

I have also seen some people paint their fins red or orange.

There was a post a while back where a guy used an orange arm swim floaty (like kids use when learning to swim) run through his handle. That would probably work great.
