Best place/city to live and kite ! Need Help!

Postby Cal33 » Wed Feb 14, 2007 10:01 pm

i have an opputunity to work remotely via the internet for 6 months for work, but have to be fairly stationary to maintain good working environment. Where is the best spot, not only to kitesurf, but also for a great time, women, and general good vibes. due to the length of the trip the season shouldn't matter much since i can start anytime in the next six months.

Cabarete for sure.
Great winds during the summer. Perfect nightlife with lot's of bars/restaurants and girls. :D

Internet connections are everywhere.

If you need some info let me know

sounds perfect!

I suggest to go to Brazil.

From June on the wind should be ok and from July/August on it will be heaven on earth.
Cheap, relaxed, beautiful, all kinds of conditions etc
No need to mention the women...

Cumbuco is your place to be, from here you have everything at your convinience.

See you there!

Cumbuco wins hands down.. Paracuru is another, but Cumbuco is the place.

I came to Brazil for a 6wk trip, spent 4mths. I also work online.

I've been in Cabarete for the last 9 out of 11 years, I'm writing this from KiteBeach Hotel in Cabarete, now.

Hooked, you know this town has changed.

1) The bars now close at 2AM (Federal Law)
2) The 20-30% tax increase on alcohol
3) New passport restrictions reduced the number of party tourists
4) Food and wine costs have greatly increased, I won't throw out numbers, but I remember last year a bottle of wine in town cost $7, last night it was on the menu for $28.
5) Loads of vacancies in all the hotels, just call and ask.

In summary, I'm seeing fewer kiters/sailors/partiers in Cabarete than I have in the last decade.

I always felt like Cabarete was my home away from home. The monster condos (Ocean One, Dreams) and no all night partying, increased costs of food and drink, have changed this place for the worst. Sad.

Now, DR is as expensive as any other Caribe island, it was the last to get expensive, but it has happened.

I'll be back in Brazil, soon.

As far as the girls go, we can't even compare DR to Brazil. Honestly, I don't know where you can compare the girls of Brazil too, Brazileras are the best women for a kiter vacation. Purrrrrfect :)

Try Jericoacoara, Brasil

Postby North_Wind » Thu Feb 15, 2007 1:02 am

I have not been to Cambuco but I spent 3 weeks in Jericoacoara in December 2006. I thought it was a magical place. I spoke to a number of people who were travelling down the coast of NE Brasil and almost all of them said Jeri was, taken in the round, a better place than Cambuco. It is a bit quieter and you do need transport to get to the kitebeach at Prea but the reward is a magical location and town. I know someone (French guy) who has a place there who might be interested in a long term rental. If you are interested, PM me.

i appreciate the replies. they reinforced what i sort of figured. from looking through threads on kiteforum cabarete and brazil are the most mentioned, but for good reason. as far as the job goes, its real estate appraisal, you review homes sales on the internet and email in reports, is too easy !

Brazil for sure, check out Paracuru though, much quieter and more terrain than Cumbuco. Cumbuco can be quite choppy, and there are a variety of women there, but you could always travel between Paracuru and Cumbuco and see which you like better.

For the states, I would suggest California (Bay Area) We just moved to San Francisco from NY and we absolutely love it! Kite season is March - October and pretty steady. Lots of great places and it's just such a beautiful city. So much to do and a ton of active women... Good luck!
