Does anyone still use their kite trainer?

Postby vwsurftrip » Mon Apr 30, 2007 3:05 am

I was wondering, how many of you are still using your kite trainer once you learned how to actually kite surf with a big kite out in the water? For those that are still using their trainers, were you kite enthusiasts beforehand? How often do you pull it out anyways?

Just wondering if I should sell my trainer now that I am ready.

when im realy bored and the winds too much for my kite or blowing offshore i fly it occasionally. i once rode with the 3 meter trainer on a plywood board when it was realy windy. if its less then 3 meters then id sell it, but the 3 meter trainer is still "kinda" fun. its also fun for your freands who might be hanging at the beach to play with while you kite. ive had mine for about a year since i started kiting in water.

I used mine on snow when the wind was nuking...got me going pretty good.

Switch out the lines if youre doing high-wind fun though, the ones supplied arent really good quality, just throw on a pair of real kite lines and youre good. (I broke mine in high winds...)

I still find it usefull to have a little trainer lying around. You can use it to teach friends the basics safely. They can also be fun in on the very light days where a big LEI won't fly properly but a small ram-air will just hang in the air.

I've kept my Trainer, good to bring out when there is a bit of wind on a weekend BBQ.

It is also good to show people the relative power of a small trainer kite versus a big one.

I usually say "Do you feel the power of that kite it is only 1m, imagine the power generated by a kite 14m etc"

I use my 4 years old 2 mt Slingshot trainer all the time. I use it mostly for kitekayaking and for teaching friends. My 9 years old son uses it with a skimboard and a sandboard and has a lot of fun with it.

Still have my Slingshot B2. Had it for 4 years and it's still fun to use on light days and to teach people.

See ya,
Jim
