I've rescued a fifth line kite by grabbing the fifth line near the bar in one hand and dragging/riding in from there. I was reluctant to get anywhere near the kite itself as it was tumbling and the lines near the kite were moving around a lot. Any flag-out leashed line would have been fine. I think this method should be safer for the resucuer as it keeps the kite and lines downwind of the rescuer.
As much as I think we should all try to rescue each other's gear I think the focus should be on making sure the rider is ok and if that is the case then whether the gear can be rescued
safely.
Good idea for a post - safe rescuing.
