fixed line c kite wave riding video

Postby surfingwithkites » Fri May 18, 2007 2:18 am

Here's a link to some fixed c wave stuff. Shitty surf but shows a bit of the riding. Hopefully there will be a lot more wave video coming the the KW siet so we can check out all the riders and styles and learn.

This is probably the top at surfing waves with kites at the moment - and i really like the top turn, but the bottom turn sucks - not that i can do it better or just as good but still....it looks ugly or is it just me

I thought it looked like it was a combination of being overpowered and having to make the next section that affected his bottom turns. Near the end he looks less powered and is tighter on the wave.

felix is sweet 4 sure.

seems to lack drive on his bottom turns though. bogging down. move forward on the board more, but with straps he wont be able to snap aswell with them forward.

dilemmas!

when you consider that you can drive a windsurfing boards rail more agressively- i don't think the straps are keeping him from driving the whole rail into the water - he just needs to lean forward - but it it a little bumpy and he doesn't want to peal

the wave is also dictating his bottom turn as he picks the next spot to hit

still - the height of kitesurfing on waves? i see a lot of styles - hard to say that

What size kite is he using? What would be your guess on the wind speed?

just a couple of samples

peter trow cabo verde wave master - thin directional board hooked in

http://www.realkiteboarding.com/video/trow.htm

caution team - a couple years ago in mexico - twin tips and directionals

http://www.cautionkites.com/WEBSITE/VIDEO_MEXICO.html

you have your directional boards of all sizes with and without straps

the foil boards etc.

film was shot over two days. some of the wide bottom turn look is due to onshore winds, some due to chop, some due to emphasis on top turns for video. note how he stomps the tail to shoot kite forward before each bottom turn on some waves for example. wind was up and down between 10 and 20. kites were 7m and 9m reactors. The idea was to just show a regular session with all its flaws so riders could just see the way felix flies the kite and sets up his hits unhooked on fixed lines with small Cs.

purdy, you are hilarious. try harder next time (but trow is definitely a good kiter). here are some other nice contemporary videos that have waves a bit more exotic than the first video.
