Hi fellow kiters,

I'm sorry but I don't speak any portugese (I'm from Holland). I'm planning to travel around in portugal for a couple of months. Of course I take my kite gear with me. I find it really hard to find any reliable wind statistics of portugal.
On this forum you can find the beaches allright, but info on the wind is not as abundant as I hoped for. Can you locals give me any information about the wind? Best of course are really statistics of a spot.
Any information about any spot is ok, because I want to visit a lot of them.
Thanks in advance.

Regards, Rik Jonker

Hi!

There is a thermic wind in summer called Nortada. It blows almost everyday, usually 2 or 3 hours, but sometimes it is not close to shore. If y want to pratice all day I really suggest y go to Tarifa, Canary Islands, Cape Verte or Brasil (on this places wind blows all day).

Good winds!

HI.
You can look for spots at windguru.com you'll see there spots from Norht to South, normally its more reliable in the summer time.
In Lisboa during this seazon you are only allow to kitesurf in Nova Vaga its a beach in Costa da Caparica and Guincho near by Cascais.
If you go some where else it's better to check with the local people and find isolated places otherwise can get you in to troubles.

all the best and enjoy.

Hi. Check out this spot: http://www.nortada-spot.com/
From may to september, wind blows consistently.
If you go to windguru search for Murtosa spot.

In August the wind is very strong. Normaly we use 9mt bows after 14:00.

There are also more spots in the north of portugal. Viana and Esposende are the two major ones. You can find a realy nice place to stay at http://www.parquedorio.pt/ it's an amazing place to stay. Esposende at August has also very strong winds. Bring small kites :)

In the North of portugal, kite isn't forbbiden yet. You can pratice it everywhere. I hope it stays like this :thumb:

If you need anything else, just POST IT :bye:

Regards,

Suc.

Thanks for all your information.

A couple of years ago I worked in portugal for a time and that's when my love for portugal started. It's great to hear that you have these thermic winds!

I have a couple of extra questions:

windguru and windfinder do not consider thermic effects, so their predictions are of no use. Do you have better local weather models; where can i find them? And do you have online actual direct measurements of the wind?

Hope to hear from yo all

Regards, Rik
