Hey guys
New to this forum (but have been lurking around for quite a while here
) and I have a few questions regarding my kite.
I bought an Impact 9m2 2006 kite. Buildquality looks very good!
Now I have one very important thing I haven't been able to look up. I bought the kite secondhand and the 5th-line has been broken a few times and the previous owner had changed the length of the 5th line. FONE kites (least the impact and some other models) have a thicker piece of 5th (about 5m or something like that) that goes on your leash, trough the bar and attaches with a larkshead-knot to the 5th (yellow) part the is attached to the kite. Now I'd really like to know how long that thick piece of 5th is exactly. I haven't been able to look this up in the manual and an e-mail to FONE gave no response.
Thank a lot in advance!
(have some more questions but I really want to get this solved first)
Also flying an FONE M5 14m2 kite. Just love FONE stuff

Hi,
I also have an impact, I just changed this line, however I didnt know the exact length either. This is what i did, I bought a peace of 4 mm line (about 1m too long) to replace the thick line. Be sure to replace it with an uncovered line! A covered line wears out very fast.
I also bought a clam cleat which I've attached to the chickenloop to adjust the 5th while having the kite in the air. The thick 5th line runs through the cleat and has a stopper on the end with a knot.
The first time i had the kite in the air, i adjusted the 5th with the cleat which was obvious too long and cut the end of it. I left about 20 cm extra rope just in case.
Of course you can adjust and cut it in the same way without the cleat.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! I guess I'll just try the trial and error method then.

the 5th line on the impacts is a passive system.
which means it is not under tension when kite is flying.
so having excess line will not hurt performance, just be messy.
fly kite with depower strap fully extended and bar fully in, check how much slack you have and reduce that to about 50mm.
the carbon bars eat exposed line so there is a reason for the PU tubing.
