Amazing worldcup wave started in Chile. All the big names!

Postby surferazul » Tue Oct 02, 2007 3:19 pm

It happened today in Chile…
A lot of the world’s most radical and renowned kitesurfers were here, battling it out to get the world wave championship title.
Conditions were epic today, we launched a free session to see which of them were going to be rewarded with the 8 spots in the ladder to have the toughest guys separated to make it more fair distributing them along the ladder.
We did 4 heats of 20 minutes in which we were scoring all the waves from each contender, and selecting the highest scores to rank them at the end for a place in the seeding in the main event.
Conditions were good, sets of very clean waves 3 to 5 meters high, breaking left hand, cold water down to 12 Celsius and light wind for a 10-12 meter kite (Around 15 knots)

Heat 1
Drew beavis (Australia-North)
Blasche (Chlile)
Clinton Bolton (S.Africa-Best)
Hervé Bouré (France-Takoon)
Guilly Brandao (Brasil-Mormaii)
Jeremy Eloy (France-North)

Heat 2
Aaron Hadlow (UK-Flexifoil)
Jaime Herraiz (Spain-North)
Ismael (France/Tahiti-Best)
Kevin Langeree (Holland-Naish)
Etienne Lhote (France-F.one)
Leeshai Miller (Israel-Naish)

Heat 3
Paraud (Chile)
Ricardo Parot (Chile-North)
Perez de Castro (Chile)
Peter Petersen (Denmark/S.Africa-Airush)
Felix Pivec (Australia-Airush)
Mark Shinn (UK-Nobile)

Heat 4
Sky Solbach (USA-North)
Tapia (Chile)
Valenzuela (Chile)
Madison Van Heurk (USA-Naish)
Simone Vanicci (Italy-Royal)
Martin Vari (Argentina)

We saw some very aggressive and technical riding, being 4 guys ahead of the rest in well done surfing with speed and control in the most critical wave section being 1st Beavis, 2nd Vari, 3rd Brandao and 4th Pivec, close followed by Langeree 5th , lhote 6th , Eloy 7th ,and Solbach 8th that are the names that will lead each one of the 8 first heats of the ladder in the main event.

Beavis was showing excellent wave riding skills being really fast and always on the critical section linking turns smoothly and doing some nice aerials of the lip scoring high because of his squeezing of the wave from take-off till the end of the whole wall.
Vari was only looking for the big waves of the set and performed the sickest moves as a huge aerial backside of the lip in one of the biggest waves of the day making the crowd cheer, as he was going off.
Brandao also very impressive with a talented surf backside going vertical and also very radical he was a bit uncomfortable using a 12 as he said it was a bit slow for the conditions, he though the wind was lighter and should have used a 10.
Pivec was a bit more conservative in the take of but was linking turns beautifully showing great surfing skills and very committed also in the last part of the wave showing some air and hitting the lip harder in that section.

That’s it from what I can let u know, stay tuned as the competition goes on .this contest is going to make history in this our beloved sport. At list this is what I think.
