Hey,

The TODAY show has a special segment on kiteboarding this morning. The host said he took a three hour lesson and they will show how he did.

When asked how he enjoyed the lesson with Real, Matt said:

"It was 3 of the worst hours of my life".

Earlier in the show, when asked if he would do the 3 day lessons with REAL he shook his head no thanks...

LOL

Anyone Tivo this?

So they already aired the segment? Or they just teased it, and it's still coming up? (9:50am, EST)

LOL,

The very highest level of instruction was realized in the high alto staccato...

Sheet-out ! Sheet-out !!!! SHEET-OUT !!!!!!!!

They always forget the up part of the first stroke...

======================================

water-starting:

There's only two ways to fail, not enough, and too much juice...you either lack the impetus to rise, compensate by pulling in with your arms,, choke the kite and watch it die a low death,,

or you become over yanked and in the cold wet dark, wondering just where that f'en kite might be,,,, and...then WHOA!! feck-me,you are re-yanked

It's about the juice and your ability to judge just what it's going to take.

On stroking the mofo: (light-air)

tip# 10. "A full stoke begins and ends high in the sky.";

it takes two stokes two go; that first one is disposable, it just sets you up for the next:

delivers you up-right and re-places the kite high in the sky for the second stroke, or the go stroke.

remember this is light wind ya mo..

Gently sashay the mofo up, just beyond zenith and with gusto, with a flourish of bravado aggressively dive it straight down,, the instant it points straight down aggressively with as much gusto steer it back up,,,,,you'll be bug eyed and balanced looking at a high kite and a clear path to follow....
You cannot be tentative and water-start in light wind.

=======

Powered air? from the beach? for a non-kiter?

It's a sure way to get out of control, but an ok way to learn if you have a boat with support staff.

From the beach??

I'm against it,,novices power stroking big kites in the swim zone is just trouble

I suggest if your land locked, that you

Go aquire your skills in light air first, because what you need for powered conditions is the sort of feel for the kite that you only get by waving one around while riding a kite-surf board at speed..

(that does not happen on land)

BOTTOM LINE, practice with trainer kites is fine, but when it's time to kite surf, you need to be in the water and have plenty of water down wind...

Learning is trial and error, the land is no place to f*** up...

--------------------------------

On getting up
Just pre-position the board to be opposing the pull, (this means of course, oppose where kite will be when it's delivering the pull) trick is you must guess,

you're back to the basic: Too much or not enough, guess

Side note: having to guess is the learning curve defined, as demonstrated by

tip # 46.

Anticipate your path through the air, guess right and it all will go according to plan...

Guess wrong and it's all just one big surprise...

smile

And,,, behold the key to it all,,,, you learn to regulate the force in the kite by how much opposing you do with the board, per instant, per instant,

It’s over before ya know it:

It’s your instincts that you must engage...

Welcome to the show...Matt

Why did he report it as the worst 3 hours of his life? Too rigorous? Too frustrating? Too cold?

Lucky that,

If he was stoked, the Today Show (TM)would be looking for a new talking head, until then he's be telling that portly weatherman to shape the f*** up...

>...I am soooo f-glad I don't have a TV> I really can;t think of more of a wasts of time (if you're like me..one of those who turn it on, and leave it on).

..but I guess that is besides the point.
