Dealing with three new potential or actual bans in SE Florida, all largely related to kiters riding too close to shore, jumping among (over?) swimmers, inside guarded swimming areas, etc.. This also includes some well experienced older kiteboarders in addition to younger riders. These idiotic self-destructive behaviors have been the most common causes of bans and problems all over for years.
Repeating, just how stupid can we be to intentionally cause all this predictable crap to fall upon ourselves, repeatedly? More importantly, when (and how) will we ever learn?

Here it almost comes to fights sometimes to try to convince people that does not behave. It is very very discouraging and unbelievably frustrating.

Hey Fo,
how can you share the stoke if all the beaches on the east coast of FL get banned?

Its a tough situation. Rules are there for the 10% of people who don't have the maturity or self control to do it on their own. Rules alone will not solve the problem, some people don't understand until their freedom is taken away or consider the rules to be taking away their freedom. Simple example - drink driving. A lot of people do it, even though there are rules for it and the penalties for getting caught are severe.

Let's examine this logically.
1- some (maybe many) human beings are morons. Kiteboarders are human beings. Therefore, some (maybe many) kiteboarders are morons.
2- some (maybe many) humans are incapable of 'reasoning'. For example, someone is driving down the street way too fast, and they end up getting into an accident and hurting others. No one would suggest we outlaw driving. The reaction is almost uniformly that the person who was driving should be punished. But when a kiteboarder does the same thing and plows into a group of swimmers, some (maybe many) conclude that the sport should be completely banned. There is no logic here, just emotions. Clearly the idiot kiteboarder here should be punished...not all kiteboarders. If everyone on the planet kiteboarded, trust me, banning it would be as rdiiculous as banning driving. But again, most humans cannot reason this out.
We cannot do anything about #1 nor #2 above. It's human nature. All we can do is remind ourselves that behaving foolishly as kiteboarders may mean we'll never kiteboard in a certain spot again. But we cannot entirely stop all the stupidity going on here both by some kiteboarders and those reacting to kiteboarders.

Its easy, just ban those who don't follow your beach rules. Not to be territorial, I welcome everyone to my beach, but you only get ONE F-up. Then your gone.
