Which OR Rise sizes would replace 9m and 14m Waroos?

Postby austroKiter » Fri May 02, 2008 5:50 am

Hey dudes,

I currently have a 14m (2006) and 9m (2007) Waroo and I'm pretty satisfied with the windrange they cover.
Since the 14m is starting to fall apart, I'm thinking about replacing either the 14m or both kites with Ocean Rodeo Rise. I have only tested a 2008 Rise 12m so far and liked it very much. Are the 2007 Rise also as nice?

Anyway, which sizes would you suggest to cover about the same windrange as my Waroo quiver?
8 + 12?
10 + 14?
8 + 14?
My weight is 190lbs (85kg) and I currently use only one board which is the 132cm Underground FLX.

thanks, thomas

PS: is it possible to fly the Rise with a Best bar and vice versa?

The OR rep back home uses a 2008 Rise 10 as his one kite quiver. I've seen him use it from 12 to 30 knots. the kite seems to be amazing. he most weight about 70kg. Don't know about the bar.

I am lighter than you...and the 8 and 12 cover pretty much all I would need. With that being said, I think the 10 and 14 would be your best bet. However, you may need a smaller kite on the real windy days. You can push the limits of the kite and use one kite over a larger range...but I don't think this is optimal.

The 2007 rises (with the bridal mod) are similar...with the main exception being the venturi vents. They make a difference. For me I notice them the most when the kite would normally stall (it doesn't want to with the vents) and also extended hangtime.

Not sure about the bar either. You can post on the OR forum if you don't get a sufficient answer.

Good luck...

David

12 + 8m

I know 12m OR rise has similar low-end as a 2007 13m Waroo. (a bit more even in terms of going upwind in marginal conditions).

Also the 8m will have slightly more high-end than a 9m waroo (also talking about 07 sice I dont know the 08)

So definitely 12 and 8m. Should give you slighly more range than your current quiver.

14 +10m would limit you high-end if conditions are often over 30 knots.

I find the venturi system to make a huge difference. Kite is faster trough the window, never falls out of the sky (nose-down), better for unhooking etc. there is plenty of info on this forum. So if you can afford it get 08 rises

Have fun!

14 and 10. He may be a couple pounds lighter but that makes all the difference. The 12 and 8 would disappoint you.

BTW, Yes you can ride the Rise on a BEst waroo bar. Only think you have to do is make yourself the Kook-proof connectors for the steering lines. this is really easy with 2x 30cm of 3mm spectra-line

I agree with Dwarf. Your best bet is an 8 and 12m combo if you are looking to cover the about the same wind range that you currently have, and I suspect that this combo will likely give you more... :thumb:

Going 10 and 14 will of course give you more juice in the really light stuff, but you won't be able to ride comfortably in as much wind (on the high end) as you can now.

Cheers,

Evan

Dude, seriously. The answer is the 8 and 12m. I had the 2006 Waroo 14m and the 12m Rise will easily match that. I would get the Rise bar.
Play it smart. Having a light wind board is MUCH more important than trying to have the biggest kite out there and hey, you won't be freestyling in under 12 anyway so it does not matter if you have a bigger board or a directional for those days.

I ride 8m and 12m... I don't think any SLE is more powerful... I've found the 12m more powerful than some 15's riding along side a great rider with the same board and weight... several tacks... Very rangy...
