I was there for a weekend in May 2011. Had one day with a very relaxed session on the lagoon. There's a couple of schools there and it would be a good safe place to teach someone because the water is pretty shallow and flat. The launch area is very tight though. I took my 15m Flysurfer S3 on the off chance that I'd get a free day (I was in Brazil for work). I rented a board from one of the schools.
Next day there was no wind so I went to the ocean and watched the surfers and the girls on the beach. Would definitely go back and try to get out for some waves. A car / van is essential to get the most out of it.
The air temperature was 28 C both days. The water in the lagoon was warm (18-20 C) but the open sea temperature was cold (8-10 C). It is the south Atlantic after all...
