Mako 2009 140 or 150?

Hello,

I am going to buy a Mako wide, but I don't know what model to choose between the 140 and 150.
Is there a real difference betwwen these 2 sizes?
My weight is 73kg, and I don't do freestyle tricks, I just want to go high, doing some backloop and frontloops.
I have 2 kites: a 9m and a 14m, but I prefer riding with my 9m.

Can you help me choosing the good size please?

At 73kg's, definitely the 140 ... if your in a low wind area, then the 150 might be better...

I haven't tried the 09 boards yet...so not really sure. As buzz said, I would probably guess the 140 based on your weight. If you don't get a sufficient answer here then try the ocean rodeo forum.

The 140 can be better for rotations, switching to toeside etc...
If there is not a huge difference in term of the low end with the 150 and if I can have the same "magic" feeling than with the 150 in small waves, and the same comfort globally, I believe I am going to buy the 140.

Nobody with a mako 140? Is it a joke or this board would not be as good as the 150?

No joke. Have patience. I think it will be better...
No stock jet in Europe from the new OR boards... still waiting for mine.
Leaving for a (kite) trip friday, without the 140.. so no review from me soon.

Just order a 140 ( so you don't mis the boat..), I bet it will suite you.

The first 2009 Makos just started shipping last week, so that's why the responses are minimal so far. At your weight, without a doubt go for the 140. You'll give up very little on the low end, and in my opinion, they 140 is even better than the 150!

I have been on the 140x40 for about 4 total sessions now. I was riding the 150x40 all this season.

The low end is really similar, I weigh 185lbs (83k?) and I don't think you lose enough for that to be the decision maker. It comes down to feel.

The 150 tracks a little harder and goes upwind a bit better. It's better in big chop and waves because it's harder to bury the nose and it carries speed a bit better. You can, and should, ride the 150 with a more even weighted stance.

The 140 feels a bit more traditional with more back foot weight. The 10cm makes a big difference with swing weight and the 140 is more playful and loose. It's better for spins, but they'll both get the job done. It jumps a bit better because you can load the edge a bit better, but both boards require a slightly different technique than a regular twin. I did bury the nose on the 140 today in swell because I was riding it too far forward, this would not have happened on the 150.

Both boards kill the chop and are very forgiving on big air landings. If you like to carve, go big and do some hooked in spins and tricks these boards are sick. If you spin a lot and want to freestyle more than you cruise/wave ride get the 140, the 150 is the freeride king.

I've riden the 150 wide since last winter.
A great all conditions board for extreme cruising.
I've had one session on the 140, (picked up a BKB demo on sunday)
I rode it with a 12m and an 8m Rise during a storm session in Seattle.
I think eag nailed it perfectly, and I totally agree with that guy..
The 140 is one sweet ride for tight turns, big jumps and tricky new school stuff.
Feels the same or very close as far as low end to the 150 to me.
Now that I've learned to get the most out of the mako hull, the 140 is really special, but...
.... if I had to choose just one for my weight, 200lbs, the 150 would be it.
It's like a course racer and wave killer all in one and just does it for me.
Try and demo both, but if you can't, I'd lean you towards the 140.
Its everything the 150 is to me at your weight, and addicting to ride.
