Do you rinse your drysuit?

Postby tswierkocki » Thu Oct 23, 2008 5:20 pm

Hi Everyone,

I made the switch to a OR Pyro Pro drysuit last year and I'm wondering if it is necessary to rinse the suit out with fresh water after each session.

Do you rinse your drysuit?

Is it necessary?

Will anything bad happen to it if I just let the salt water dry and then put it away for a few days till the next session? Seems to work fine for kites.

Thanks,

Tom

No reason to rinse it that often, it wont be "damaged" in any way.

Only if you got a plastic zipper like some do, you might want to rinse the zipper, as it might otherwise get stuck and open up :(

Kindly, Peter Frank

I rinse mine out after each session. Probably not necessary but I do it. Rinsing the inside keeps the fungi and bacteria from growing on your body exudates and making your suit smell nasty. Outside; I think rinsing the salt and sand particles off keeps the zipper from wearing out prematurely.

Besides, when I hang it up to dry in the shower stall, my girls think there is a monster standing there when they come into the bathroom.

I rince mine after every 3-5 uses, just to get rid of all the residue and salt that does build up.I wax the zip after every use and when i do wash it i get baby talcun powder and put it on all the seals and it keeps them in good nick and makes it easier to get into.
Best buy i have purchased.

I have an OR Pyro but didn't use it last season, in preference for the old steamer. However, when in use, I did use to give it a quick spray off with the hose after each use, especially around the zip area, I would also wax the zip all the time. Probably ok to just do it every 3-4 sessions?? But do take care of the zip. :thumb:

I have the OR Pyro Classic drysuit... ( one of the smartest purchases I've made :thumb: )...and I do have to say, I'm in the "rinse it off" tribe. At least the outside . I prefer to rinse it off as soon as possible, but there have been times where I'll go out the next day with no washaroo...

Keep the zipper waxed. And I spray the gaskets with silicone spray once or twice a season. No powder for me.

One of the best investments I've made! :D

Depend on where you are I guess, some places have a lot of bacteria, some have a high salt content in there water in those case you should, Never dry your suit in direct sun light, fades out the color after time and weakens the material . I don’t have a dry suit I have the Mystic shorty crossfire I don’t rinse it out at all just in the shade drip dry

I have had the traditional OR Pyro for 4 years and have never rinsed it. However I wax the zipper every time. I only use it in Salt water.

EXACTLY !

Its as simple as that :thumb:

No need to rinse the suit (only if you feel better personally doing it...), but take care of the zipper :D
