imho 9m not quite right
sets up very over sheeted and 5th line seems way too tight
in this mode not the same smooth feel or comparable bottom end as my 7m
anyone got comments
i have added a 5th line pigtail of 10cm seems to have hlped a lot

Which knot are your back lines set on. I like my North's set with the back lines on their longest setting. The fifth needs to be exactly the same length as the front lines for optimal flying.

Pork - So far have owned 10, 9, 8, and 6M 2009 Rebels.
First notice was that 5th line was doing more work on these kites than any previous 5 line kites.
With four attachment points to the leading edge, the fifth is essentially a bridal in and of itself.
As a result, the 5th line on my bar has stretched about 1.5 cm. longer than the other 4 lines,
and the other 2 flying lines are now sharing with balance in the work. Perfect!
A friend with brand new '09 11m found his 5th line a shred too tight also; we added a short pigtail to
the fifth and he was perfectly balanced.
Have owned all the Rebels from '07 on; these are great!

I have put a knot on LE lines where you connect the lines from the bar, that gives the 5th lines and steering lines a little slack on my Rebel 2009 8m and 11m.

Hi all,
I have a 9 & 11m 09', and have a couple of questions:
1) On your back/ steering lines, which knot are you all using under the bar floats, and are you tuning differently for different sizes?
2) On the center/ 5th line, which knot are you using down by where the line comes through the two front lines? Couldn't you move this up a knot to allow more slack on the 5th line instead of adding to it? Forgive me, I don't have it in front of me so might be misunderstanding the set up.
Also, as an FYI, I have an 08' 7 which works nicely on the 09' bar without any additional tuning.
Been also riding rebels since 07' and think they are fantastic kites, especially in the surf!

I've had Rebel and 5th Element bar 07,08 and now 09.
1) Haven't moved anything under the floater on all my bars.
2)Haven't moved anything on the 5th line.
I just made a knot on the front lines on the kite on my Rebel 2007 (12-9) and 2009 (11-8) not on my 2008 (12-9-7).
Dont change anything on the 5th element lines, they should be the same length.

Thanks Casper. I remember doing this on my 07's. BTW, had an insane session on my 9 today!!! Winds ~15-25 averaging 20mph with really fun surf; great x-mass!

i've had 07 08 and now 09 rebels
i'm sold on them and this post is just trying to get the most out of them
o7 7m had a cock up with 5th line, had wrong one attached at the factory
otherwise no complaints at all
didnt get a lot of use on 08's, but 6m never fails to impress in nukin wind
as for o9, found 7m fantastic so far, lighter smoother bar pressure, great low end- no problemo
when 1st flew 9m didnt seem to have low end that i would have expected from flying the 7m, seemed to be very tight at front end and over sheeted to the max, standinging under and pulling bar in would deform the kite a lot, needed to use depower strap to try and balance it up
but that didnt solve the front bridle
i might be wrong but it seemed the 9m was a different beast to the 7m and all things considered largely redundant given 7m low end
have just got them both out on the backlawn, all the lines are correct length (front pigtails and 5th line bridles)
5th line on the 9m is 30cm shorter than the ends of the front pigtails ( string taken from pigtail to pigtail and perpendicular take to 5th) about 24 on 7m
so have put a knot in front pigtails and added a line to the 5th - see what happens
previously have lengthened steering lines at the bar
lengthened fifth line below the steel ring - makes no difference to the front line 5th line "bridle" as the tensions is at the ring then through the single front line, 5th line slack below the ring
we've good seabreezes and more to come so i'll report back in next few days
btw 5 10 kontact is THE wave board - perfect in every aspect
