Megaloop technique question...

I just have a question about the proper technique to execute a megaloop. How is it done besides having big balls? Also does the kite actually go back past the rider for a soft landing?

Yes, a proper megaloop has a kind of lift at the end so you don't have a hard landing. watch some videos, there are plenty here.
Cheers!

Try being super super powered on anywhere from a 5-9 meter kite. Jump up as high as you can and before you hit the apex yank as hard as you can with your back hand. Its kind of a fluid motion, you don't like jump up and have your kite at twelve and then pull, its like as the kite is sending you up you yank hard and let it continue its rotation around. What you're seeing with the above the head loop after you're done is just making sure you don't drop out of the sky it just helps with the soft landing and it really has no power in it.

Hello

The key point to land megaloops soft with the kite above your head is to let of the bar straight after looping the kite.

good luck

In order to get the kite to be below you during the loop a lot of people use shorter lines. You can try doing the same. Good luck!

You need nukin wind, a decent release off the water, a fast(turning and through the window) kite. There are actually only a few kites that can do it without pounding your ass. I use a Royal Era but the other good ones are Torch, Fuel, Vegas then a few bridle kites like the bandit, obsession. Some kites may feel like they can turn fast enough but what your looking for is acceleration after it comes through the loop. If the kite is slow in that respect your gonna eat it if you go big.

If you don't get the catch on your way down your prolly gonna think twice before ever trying it again. The small ones and the giant loops are the safest. Its the 10-20 foot high ones that kill you.

I would not use short lines to start with(under 20). Work down in line length later when you get bored and figured out the technique. I've had way more go wrong with 10-15m lines than when I was riding 20m. If you ever managed to go above your kite you'll realize why I don't advise short lines until later.

Have fun and remember to have someone take some video.

Go for a big jump but send the kite back further than you normally would for a straightforward jump, then pull hard on the bar to get the kite to loop. You need a fast kite to be able to get it round and drive it hard straight up into the air to get a soft landing, also keep the kite looping when you land for a second loop so you don't out run the kite and have it fall out of the sky.

I'm not doing megaloops yet but this works well for big kiteloops, and I read an interview with Ruben once and this is basicaly what he said

I wouldn't call my own loops mega. But I want to recommend that you first be sure you can nail your normal size loops before trying mega. No matter how big your balls, you're in for some big crashes. And I assure you that a medium sized loop gone wrong can hurt plenty.

I am not doing any Jumps with kite loops in them yet. I have been jumping fairly well. I have been practicing riding hard, and looping the kite on the water with no jumps. I guess cause I am scared to commit. I am also doing downloop trannys in both directions. I am starting to flow really nice now. I am thinking in natural terms.......I probably should start with a loop on the way down??? Then once i am comforable with those, I will try and yank one on the way up!!!!!

Just feeling the radical pull from looping the kite with no jump.......I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE RUSH FLYING THREW THE AIR.

ps. I love flying my 9 m in less than ideal conditions, just to practice looping and flying the kite. Its fun, and had improved my kite skills dramatically

some other tips :
- also point your board totally downwind from you with the landing
- avoid choppy water for landings

I busted the cross ligaments of my knee last year on a bad landing from a big kiteloop in choppy water and I'm still in rehab (6 to 7 months)
I have been kitelooping for a while, but seeing your knee going in a totaly opposite direction of your board is not a funny experience. :(
Kiteloops are fun and additive, but be also prepared for injuries ....
