The camp you are picturing in your mind's eye should be set-up on the Gulf-side beach not on the Bay-side. The short list of reasons not to plan on coyote camping on the bay-side is:
1. Stinging flys
2. Mosquitoes
3. It is all privately owned land
4. Tidal water inundation of campsite and those 4 wheel trails
5. Mud
6. Local good-ol-boys partying
7. Getting lonely out there, all by yourself
On the other hand, camping on the Gulf-side in the sand dunes can be really nice, with just a short drive to the North Flats.

Excellent- Thanks for the info- Looks like I've got an entire month down there, (I may just work the coast from Houston all the way down) So I really appreciate you taking the time to post some advice, I'm sure I'll get more good info once I'm there but its nice to try and picture it

Any final developments with the Round up? I heard there was a lot of construction going on.
I'm hitting the Road to SPI in a few hours. 1500 Miles and then its warm fun in the sun. I can't wait to get out of here the water is still freezing with skim ice in the mornings.
See you guys in a few days.

I just got back from SPi 30 minutes ago and if the conditions are similar to what we got last week you will be in for a treat! Some guys were constructing a slider in a lot beside my hotel all week...I saw the XL Kite truck there so you might want to give them a ring with questions about construction.
Too bad the roundup is going on during finals week for me...hope everyone has a blast.

I can't wait for this event. I'm bringing down team rider Nicci Warshaur from Ft. Lauderdale. She's awesome....won the slider event at Islamorada.
I'll have all the new GK kites and Litewave boards and new Hybrid Lace-up sandal.
The format of this event is the way to go, IMO. Now we just need wind which is likely for SPI.

quick shout out to Air Padre for helping us out when I was down there with my family. Alex enjoyed the downwinder with TJ, as well as mixing it up with with Tucker on the flats.....nice time, but glad to be home, where we have some decent wind and waves on tap for the weekend.....yes, wetsuits required...

you can bet on that!
I hope we will see many more of these worldwide.
So far only two for 2009...and if successful, they will be huge next year and more to come!
Have a good time!
