there is no doubt about it, Varadero is the best spot in Cuba, the windiest, the most accessible to other spots around, the longest beach (27 km) and you can do more than kiting once you are tired from your session.

I am also considering to go to Cuba during the winter holidays. Does anyone know the costs of travelling there? I dont need nor do i like fancy hotels. A cheap guest house is all I need.
Also, if i were to bring only 2 kites, which sizes should i bring?

I will say a 12m as your big kite and a 8m or 9m, it depends on what board you ride with and body weight. I dont need a kite bigger than 12m, and what I use the most is the 10m Rise for everything, light winds and strong winds too. Hotels are many cheap ones (Punt Blanca, Mar del Sur, Tropical, Acuazul, etc) you should check what package are available from where you are or you can try getting the airfare and calling one of those cheap motel/hotels and booking on your own. you will need to present to the custom authorities the name of the place you will be staying in.

Don't expect too much from (or in) Cuba
It's a pretty poor country, with not much resources

Also, for obvious reasons, there are not many people with boats available

For the beginners or not very experienced, Cayo Guillermo is very easy. A lot (!) of shallow flat water.

In Varadero every hotel count with HobbieCat catamrans, pedal boats, kayaks and some of them have a motor boat service for doing the banana boat etc.

if you make friends with the people working in the nautical center in your hotel you will be fine, normally they will keep an eye for you. the beach is very shallow along side but not to much when you walk forward. check out Kawama hotel area, thats the place where most of the locals hang and you will find Jose in there. Jose is a kite instructor/ lifeguard, he is the most knowledgeable person regarding weather conditions, safety etc. He is always there. November is my favourite month for riding there. If you PM me i will give you his contact info, the locals are very cool and they welcome everybody.
