Boots are the best way to go. You will never have to worry about your ankle. They are not hard to ride with. Rock the boots and heal or ride straps and screw it up again. Style vs being reinjured.

I wasn't going in the water with mine, but they'll know which one you'll need.

The brace won't save you, straps are designed to kill you ankle at some point. If you're doing tricks, especially wakestyle, please do yourself a favor and switch to boots.

I had an ankle injury while doing wakeboard practice, the solution for wakeboarding is to get the stiffest boots on the market and the ankle is fine. Same for kiteboarding.

i totally agree with FredBGM and jomoj. Only if you practise a lot it will help you for a short and long term. Make it your life style, I did. 6 days, half an hour in the gym and finish with swimming and you will see that your anckle will heel in such a strong and confident way. Skimboarding is really great to do, never knew that that would help too. What about snowboarding? good/bad. I think if you keep practising every day you can have it all. I also perform self massage to my legs and anckles it really works out great. I just don't believe in paying for something to make your injuries go away, you have to work on that body yourself. Did you know that swimming works like a mirror. It tells you all about how long it will take to heal or how bad the injury is...just my 2 cents :jump:

Hi,

Last summer I injured my ankle (grade 2 ankle sprain)... it was the third time that I had this type of ankle injury...

recently, when kiting I re injured it a couple of times again!

I am looking for an ankle brace(compression) for kiting and at the same time is good on keeping my ankle in place during jumping, landing, etc!

Any recommendation would be great.

thanks in advance.

A few months ago, my ankle was injured. Various other treatments have been tried with little success, including hard ankle support. This makes it difficult for me to act. So I decided to try this ankle brace first. I first found that this kind of socks is very comfortable. When they are worn on the socks, they will not move or roll up, and can be fixed in place. I have been wearing it for almost two weeks, and my feet feel better and better, and I get compression and support, and the pain has been greatly reduced. SB SOX and POWERLIX are my favorite brands with good breathability.

This is the one I was given after ankle surgery. I have used it once but with boots since I just got released from the Dr to play again.

Decent physiotherapy/ training.
TO:
Increase range of motion. Make limit further.
Increase muscle strength to prevent getting end of joint limit.

You could wear a brace but that isn't sorting the problem... is an option though.. I don't like them.. I have broken my ankle before.

After a bad injury you are in line for the same thing or worse because your joint lost mobility and muscle strength while recovering.

You have to commit to it.. that is the hard part.. especially if it isn't as much fun as kiting...

I do strength and flexibility training. It works for me. My ankle broke after a long period of way less use/ training on it. Bone density goes down with age too though, reality.

At this point I would say the best thing to do is see a sports medicine specialist in ankles. If you are having recurring sprains chances are you have serious damage to the ligaments and or tendons. When I first went to see a Dr for my ankle after the MRI came back the first thing he said was "Well I can do reconstructive surgery". Really a brace might not prevent anymore sprains at this point.

Ankle surgery is not fun. I had ligaments, tendons, and torn cartilage repaired. It was pretty painful and a pain in the ass trying to get around. I am glad I got it taken care of before something worse happened to it though.

I have had good luck with one of those lace up boots and under it wrap your sprained ankle with self adhesive althletic stretchy joint wrap. Not too thick just enough to support the ankle and fill out the boot so it will compress correctly on you foot when you lace it up.
This is very waster proof and simple solution that allows you to customize how much support you need. :thumb:
