Anyone going to Bald Point or Alligator Point tomorrow?

Postby ascendkiteboarding » Sat Oct 24, 2009 1:02 am

I'm heading that way around 6 am and should arrive around 8am. If anyone knows of a better place let me know or if you going to be at those places.

Ha, our local spot!

We have not had a good start to the season and tomorrow doesn't look that good either but maybe you will get lucky.
1. Forecast
http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/GM/730.html
http://www.beachview.com/Beach_Cams/All ... Point.aspx
Anything out of the East is usually strongest in the early AM at Bald Point and dies as the land heats up.
Anything out of the S is good for the afternoon at Alligator Point with a sea breeze effect.

2. What it's blowing
Bald Point:
http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =KFLALLIG2
Check the wind before you go to bed to see if it is blowing NE/E/SE. Check it again an hour before sunrise. If the gust hits 20 you may be in luck. If the average hits 20 then you should be at the beach.
Alligator Point:
http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... =KFLALLIG1
http://www.beachview.com/Beach_Cams/St. ... Beach.aspx
Start checking the wind at midday and look for the direction to switch SW/S/SE and for the speed to pick up. The moment the average hits 15 you should be at the beach.

3. Storms
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/b ... ayer=radar
You can animate the chart to see where the storms are blowing. Typically storms kill the wind and you don't want to kite near lightning.
Bald Point
Ridable: NW - SE
flat water at mid-low tide.
Short downwinders.

Alligator Point
W - SE
Shitty wind chop but sometimes good wave riding and flat spots depending on how the sandbars are set up

 if it's possible to have negative wind I think I just found it. ;)

just arrived at bald point an it is a pretty good launch spot as long as your careful with the stumps.

I'm heading over to st George or alligator point.

you should have headed more north to the tip of bald, downwind of the oyster beds is some butter water. negative wind means positive wind is somewhere else!

if you're trying to ride that NW, the entire north side of St George Island is mostly unkiteable due to oyster beds. however there is a spot on the south side of the John Gorrie Memorial that runs east-west that has a launch that disappears the higher the tide. some great places to eat and drink in Eastpoint though!
