helmet recommendations?

Postby knot_moving » Sun Oct 25, 2009 3:55 am

So I am thinking that I will start routinely using a helmet, and since winter is coming it might help keep me warm besides.

Looking for recommendations from kiters who routinely use a helmet -- needs to be one that will work well in summer as well.

shred ready make the uber-helmets for this sport (and kayaking, wakeboarding, rafting etc)
http://www.shredready.com/
they also come with soft ears, which i like a lot especially now end-october in cold stormy north europe.

I've got this one as well, no complaints. Be sure to get the right size though, otherwise it won't stick to your head.

Another bump for shredready. I've been buying from them for years, and though I never had to really test the helmet, their service, response, and quality has been super good.

I use the Protec Ace Wake also, and I like it a lot. Those earflaps make body-dragging much more comfortable. Also, it has a component that wraps around the back-base of your skull, so it stays in place pretty well. :thumb:

I haven't tried any other water-helmets in action, so take my opinion for what it's worth.

Zygi, that Smartcap definitely looks cool, and it probably does a good job, but I was a little worried when I found this on their site: "The Smartcap is a headprotector and does not meet any standards for protective gear or helmets.

I like the "sweetprotection" I just wish it covered the back of the head a little more.

I use the Protec helmet which fits great, but I want something with a visor to keep the sun off my nose. Plus then I don't have to put sunscreen on my forehead, which keeps it out of my eyes.

I have a Gath helmet, it is by far the lightest and most comfortable helmet I have tried. Gath has many increment sizes so if you are looking for a good fit, and a slim profile, this is the helmet for you... They are not cheap though... $100+. They do have visors etc... are you really sure you want to look like a space cowboy?

Sincerely

Pete
