G'day,
Here's my little thought, we've had some unexplained chicken loops coming off the harness hook, in mid flight, punching out, but when the bar is retreved, it hasn't punched out but it is still complete. When I saw the mod, I looked at the differences and while mucking around with it I noticed that the ring can end up coming between the loop causing it to open the loop and if you pull the bar in towards the loop, it may cause the chicken loop to open up and come off. I don't know if this is what is happening but it looks like it and maybe this is Norths way of getting around the minor flaw in design and still saving face.
Anyway, just a thought, anyone else see what I mean,
see ya
Robert.

First time I used this bar, the chicken loop came out of the spreader, twice. Was scratching my head thinking what on earth just happened? Second time, the iron heart itself released while I was fully powered...again, no idea what hapenned - could only think I must have done something really stupid like not checking it properly before I went out. That time it was a real pain in the arse.
Time to take a closer look - and try the North mod I guess - but disturbing that the piece of equipment I put the most "trust" in doesn't seem to be, umm, work.

Not positive, but I think the reason for the mod is because some had problems with the 5th line getting jammed during release if there was any debris. If you look closely at the 5th line, it splits as it gets a few cm. from the ring. Maybe this is the area where it was more likely to gather debris.

It seems its a mod to avoid the possibility of the (slightly) thicker part of the 5th where it joins the metal ring getting jammed by sand or debris as the IronHeart red trigger releases the 5th when you bail out.
Check out the mod video on the north site
http://www.northkites.com/public/conten ... x_eng.html
I haven't had any issues.... but I can see how, if you had a LOT of sand or something else jammed in the IronHeart where the 5th emerges to join the metal ring it MIGHT cause a delay or even a failure of the deployment of the 5th and prevent the bar sliding up the 5th.
Make sense?
I made the mod, takes 2 minutes......everything works fine
