I'm just curious as to the advantages of flying high aspect kites when it's blowing hard as in 25mph plus?

Faster flying kite, better upwind performance, more depower, better jumping power and glide :thumb:

Only drawback could be gust stability - but if well designed it is fine :D

And relaunch with these sizes works like a charm no matter what AR they have, right ?

Not Sure. :D
Just rode an old 5 C kite on a fixed pulley bar with a 5'8" twin fin fish strapless in some 25+ wind & 22+ surf. :thumb:
Sick shit, just don't fall. :crossfingers:
I rode that kite because it was the only small kite I had that stays inflated and still flys... :coolshades:

Aloha, ride Safe, Have fun... :hut:

peter franck nailed it.
despite i d stick to the high/very high aspect for low/medium wind.
above 15-17 knts, medium/small aspect kite are enough, less funny but enough.

Like TopHat said: Most people have older high aspect kites in small sizes . Like me.
We only use 5 and 6 m kites a few times, and we got them a while back when those where the shit.
But they work , so why toss them out.
Also, when it's blowing like today, 30mph+, we just go out to , well, to go out,.. not to show off, get better or have the ride of your life.
I don't go out in those winds to do crazy jumps anymore, sadly,... but I am too hurt already. :-(

(wait a minute: Top Hat said he went out in an old C kite.... isn't that a "low" aspect kite??)

High aspect ratio tends to give you more depower and better float.
many also go with high aspect ratio kites becasue they are less nervous to steer.

However in strong conditions with big surf or monster chop I find it nice to have a low aspect ratio kite.

But then there is the odd one out... the Flysurfer Psycho that is variable projected aspect ratio.
The kite goes to a more C-shape when depowered and to a flatter shape when powered up.

It's a nice combination... c-shaped for whipping it around in the surf and then flat to go back upwind.
Same for jumping... Send it quick while c-shaped and then power it up for the jump and flatten it out nicely for a floaty landing.
