Removing Deckpads?

Postby Pike » Thu Apr 01, 2010 12:58 pm

Is there any easy way to do this? Any chemicals which will remove the glue but not damage the board (pop out..not foam)

cheers

The best way I found so far is accetone and a rag. The accetone will evaporate quickly, so cover it with a rag after you soak the area. After 5 minutes, the glue will soften a bit. Now the hard part, start scrubing it off with a the rag (use a mask/well ventallated area). It might take a few applications and some serious scrubbing to remove most of the glue. If you plan on waxing it over, you might not have to get every bit of it off(as long as it as flush to the board as you can get it).
Last thing, don't glue/use pads for the front. A nice coat of wax, base coat first, works just as good. :D

Have had decent results removing deck pads/adhesive using heat (carefully with heat-gun) and penetrating oils like WD-40, PB-Blaster, etc...

The heat tends to soften the adhesive allowing for easier pad removal, and the penetrating oils tend to saturate and break down the adhesives nicely --can spray on the penetrating oil, leave it sit for a bit, wipe off, and repeat untill all adhesive is removed..
