Hey!

Closest spot - Plesheevo Lake. About 130 km from Moscow. PM me when you'll be here!

Haha, he has a point! :)

lots of schools at different places and rental if you don't have your own gear.

Try contacting Andrew at andrew@bestkiteboarding.com he could set you up with contacts for some guys who kite too and contact for school. Few kite shops in Moscow too which are worth checking out. And don't miss the 'MaCay' pub or something like that. That's the key word in Moscow ;)

True, we don't have good summer spots right near Moscow, but if you're willing to drive a bit, it can be done. Plesheevo is one spot (130km from Moscow, about 2 hr drive), Rybinskoe reservour is about 500km north - its a huge lake, almost a sea. But in general we travel for quality kiting in the summer: Azov/Black sea, Egypt, Europe, etc.

Take a warm wetsuit - its usually hot in Moscow in the summer, but we often get good wind when the temps go down to 12-15 C.

And there's a lot of wakeboarding happening, you might consider that instead of kiting. We have 2 Rixens in Moscow and a bunch of wake clubs with good boats.

And there is always an option of flying to kite, lots of cheap flights to Egypt, Azov and Caspian seas.

Finally, if you think you have the cojones, you can go for landkiting, here's a spot in downtown Moscow:

Just few hours on train or one hour on plane (650km from Moscow) and your are in Saint-Petersburg - one of the most beautiful city in the world!

There are a lot of spots for all winds direction near Saint-Petersburg at Gulf of Finland (part of the Baltic Sea) and at Ladojskoe Lake
Friendly kitesurf community - www.kiteforum.spb.ru
The most popular spot "Kurort" at windy day at weekend, huge traffic :о)

Water not very cold, but you need a regular wetsuit 5\3 for comfort riding. The most popular size of kite - 12m. The best winds - west direction. Water - chopy, some waves. Check the windguru.cz for good forecast and welcome to Saint-Petersburg!
