Hi Toby,
I was first to hijack this thread!
Puetz took it back by re-directing the subject to the age topic.
The legit subject now has therefore become "age".
Any attempt to change the new subject should be seen as hijacking Puetz.
Oh! You already have an age dedicated poll, so you might take this as a copyright infringement.
I know your age ;-) btw and you know mine as we met in a country where age is considered a virtue...
I am grateful for your discretion. I'll have the pleasure to reveal it myself once the conditions are met.
Sawaddee Krup Khun Ting-Tong Toby!
Alex

Toby is a baby, to me. That should give a clue...
But he's a baby for whom I have immense admiration.
Have you seen the stuff he's doing? At his age ? ;-)
Sorry; board-off is off-topic....

Only 1/3 of the conditions are met.
Let's be grand and let it go:
62
Yes, you heard that. :respect1: where a little respect is due.

But the reason for being bashful  about my age is not at all what you guys might think.

Alex,
My eldest brother is your age.
He kayaks long distance runs (4-6 hours) on Lake Ontario weekly (when it's not frozen).
Runs 12-15 miles, three days a week (does a couple marathons a year).
Lifts weights three days a week.
Can out climb and descend better (on a mountain bike) many, many, men who are about one third his age.
It's not the number, it's how baddass you are!!
I give him all the respect he is due.
I have two other brothers who do not get my respect, they have not earned it.
I'm guessing it's the same here, respect is given to those that earn it and I don't think it it just given for being an old dude like me or you. :crossfingers:

Welcome to the club, brother of yours.
I hope you've been pushing him to go kitesurfing !
He's obviously fitter than me and most.
In my view, kitesurfing is not demanding physically enough to keep fit, at least if you don't do unhooked stuff. But I'm using gear that doesn't tire at all and is gentle with you. Board and kite.
Kiteboarding is much less physical than windsurfing, for example.
BTW the compliment I'd really hate to hear after a good riding session is "you are an inspiration for us young guys", because it is a direct reference to my age rather than the enjoyment THE sport gives.
If any of you guys ever come to my area, you will always be welcome.
We'll be like Statler and Waldorf.

Unfortunately, he and I are 2000 miles apart, he still lives in Rochester New York and I live in beautiful Austin Texas. His house is right on Lake Ontario, literally can jump off his back porch into the water. This is a bit of an unforgiving lake to learn to kite on though can be very unpredictable. He would probably love to kiteboard but I think his schedule does not allow for much else. He has grandchildren in Colorado and Alaska to visit when he has any time off his work and his insane physical work out routine keeps him going like a crazy man. He used to race motorcycles, so I know he would learn to kite and get the itch to race. He is competitive to the core. Can you tell I think he's cool?
Way off topic now..........don't care.

"Respect is given to those who earn it"... that is the wisest thing anyone has said in the last 5 pages of this topic!

Alex, if anything, your age should actually mean you have more life experience than most of us and people would expect you to behave like so.
Not like an old man (don't like those words), but like a more experienced person.

I have the exact wrong image of you. i would easily say you're a 15 year old that thinks his the best and is quite bitter about everything.

at some point i must feel a bit bad for you... If at your age, this is your behaviour, it doesn't look like you led a peacefull life... feels like somethings haunting you (just my opinion, you don't care anyway, i'm sure).

Hope you can enjoy at 62 what you couldn't at 26 !

It's never late to KITESURF YOUR ASS OFF! :thumb:

... well I did ask, and Alex did answer, and also to be transparent, I might as well get my age out there too for what is worth (man were off topic here, or is it on topic now, since the hijack ...ahh who cares, I'm too old now and I can't remember what I was doing this morning, the magic of Heinikens is doing its magic, me thinks!), its March 17 1969, so that makes me 41! :D

cheers,

Robbie

p.s. age doesn't mean you have the automatic right to be right, but when you earn it, your well on your way!!! I wonder what Mitch would think of all this??????

There are lots of old farts on this forum, Alex! I am a 56 year old pensioner. I was born in Europe. English is the third language I learned. And I ride a Mako Wide, just like you! Maybe we should start a club, or something?

Yesssss! ZigZag, :thumb:
Nice pics. Where's that?
The club of the "geriatric hijackers". Toby: please, "old man" and "hijacker" smilies.
56 and already pensioner?
How long have you been riding?
Are you cursing when stung by jellyfish?
The latest question is just there to pretend we're staying on topic ;-)
Born in Europe is a bit vague isn't it?
Give me some time to find a picture I should have somewhere on my pc of a guy who looks just like you ripping an amazing bottom turn.

Alex[/quote]

I have a heart condition and elected to take voluntary early retirement. I want to spend the rest of my life doing something I love. What is the point of working if you don't live to enjoy the fruits of your labour?

Jellyfish? Pah! You can't frighten me with jellyfish! I curse far more when I drop my kite in the impact zone.

I live in South Africa, currrently hosting the World Cup. The country of my birth has managed to get through to the quarter finals. That should narrow things down a bit!
